For someone who has recently joined this board and is asking for a lot of help in other threads, you might want to show a little more respect to the posters who have some experience on here.

HIS point was that if anyone with money could bribe their way thru various processes it could lead to some very bad things! And it is not ridiculous what he states!

If you do it yourself, do you get all the documentation together and go to the Santo Domingo office?
Where do you get the doctor exam done?

Thanks you

They will tell you exactly where to go for the lab tests and x rays! It is a short cab ride away. they will give you paperwork that has to go with you.

Driving licence info

As I didn't receive any response to my last post (number 24 in this thread http://www.dr1.com/forums/living/114474-adventure-capital-how-renew-residency-cedula-hard-way.html) I decided to pursue the replacement of my driving licence. As the expiration date on the stolen driving licence was not until December 2011, it was necessary to get a duplicate for now and then renew later. The charges relating to driving licences are listed here MOPC - Ministerio de Obras P?blicas y Comunicaciones

It was necessary to go to Ban Reservas and pay the fee (RD$ 540 for a duplicate licence) and then, armed with receipt, go to the office in Puerto Plata and present receipt, cedula, and in my case, copy of the police report indicating my licence was stolen. Photocopies of the documents were required for an additional RD$ 10!

As ever, there was a bit of a queue which was actually reassuring in that so many were there to collect/ renew licences.... then came the necessary photograph and finger prints and after about an hour and a half I was issued with the new driving licence. Quite painless and simple and could even have been achieved with my poor Spanish although I was accompanied by fluent speaking friends on this occasion.

Hope this information is useful to others.

New requirement for permanent residency?

After having deposited all documents for permanent residency in mid March and after waiting so long for a response of approval etc. I have learned today that I need to pay for the carnet another 5500 and to get a cita/vip another 2000.
Does anyone know what is going on?
I double checked the form that shows the requirements and there is no such fee mentioned.Checked the website's tarifas -no such fee mentioned!
Mr Guzman can you shed some light here-is this a new law? Anyone any ideas?????

The fees for the cedula will usually be covered in the lawyer fee. The VIP cita is optional. If you want the residency card on the same day then you can opt for the VIP. Otherwise you can opt the regular but you had to go back on another day to collect the card. This was how I got the temporary residency with my lawyer.

Since when do you need a drivers license to buy a car in RD???

You do Not need a Drivers License to buy a Car in the DR, and You neither need a Drivers License to put a insurance on that Car in the DR.
how I know?
I bought 3 Cars, 1 Jeep and 2 Pickups during the last 4 weeks and we bought them in 3 different names, 2 of them are Foreigners without Residency/Cedula, we bought them with copies of the Pasports and we bought the Full Insurance for each with a copy of the Passport. nobody even asked for a Drivers License.

driving licence renewal in santo domingo - the easy way

renewed driving licence in santo domingo yesterday. visited bank and "office" to renew licence - the whole process took me no longer than 40 minutes (including queues).
this is how i did it:

1. checked on amet site to make sure i didn't have any problems to my name and vehicle. also checked link provided by whirleybird to make a mental note of how much i was supposed to pay.

2. went to banreservas located at level 3 of multicentro on winston churchill. quite a few people there, but queue moved fast. showed my old licence and cedula to the cashier and said i wanted my licence renewed. paid the rd$830. received two receipts (didn't actually read them).

3. went straight down to level 2 of multicentro (you have to either go in the lift or walk down the ramp in the car park - as far as i know, you cannot access it through the "la sirena" shop). took a ticket and waited for my number to be called. at this point i expected the worst as there were a lot of people, but the man at the desk called out numbers in batches of fives. he took the old driving licence, the cedula and the receipts. asked me to put one of my index fingers on one of those red light finger-print machines. stapled the old licence to a new receipt, returned that and my cedula and then asked me to step left to one of the people running the photo machines.

4. photo taken. was asked if my address, etc. was still the same, then asked to sit down.

5. within five minutes, my name was called, index finger checked again and new licence was given.

fastest process i have have ever been through for an official document.

Cedula renewal and change of address in azua

Walking up to the Junta Central Electoral office in Azua, I was stopped at the door by a man wearing a bright red striped polo shirt. He asked me what I wanted, and I dutifully explained the purpose of my visit. He asked me for my old c?dula. I asked him if he was a 'busc?n'. He said no. Then I walked around him and entered the office to the left of the waiting room. I courteously saluted a woman behind a desk and explained the nature of my visit. She asked me if I had seen the man in the red shirt outside. I told her I had but thought he was a busc?n. She said I had to speak to him first. I returned outside and with great formality apologized to the man. I explained again the nature of my visit. With a disarming smile, the man in the red striped polo shirt told me it would cost me money. He said it would cost me maybe 500 pesos, maybe 1000. I told him no problemo. He escorted me back inside the building, and I was rushed through process including the photo session in less than 20 minutes flat.

yeah JR,
same procedure in Santo Domingo.
you walk up the stairs to the 2nd Floor where the Junta's Area is located, and first you are welcomed by a Guy who asks about the purpose of Your Visit, so you let him know you wanna renew your cedula, He then explains which Documents You need at hand to do so and checks if they are really complete, then He brings your documents in the next door office and comes a minute later back with a Paper that states Your purpose and the Price and shows you where at the next door the cahiers is, you go to the cashier, pay the Fee and then wait in the seating Line to get your Foto taken, takes just a few minutes of waiting, and once the Foto is taken and the electronic Fingerprint and Signature it takes only a few more minutes and You have your Plastic in hands. I've been this year there several Times, for my own and also to acompany friends for their Renewal, all visits been positive experiences and very quick, longest procedure been around 50 minutes Total, mostly it did not take longer than 30 minutes from the Moment entering the Building til the Moment leaving the Building with the new Card in hands.

He's not a busc?n, he's a botella! The man at the JCE in Santo Domingo was wearing an official looking ID tag, and was inside the building.

yeah Chiri, that's right,
the Guy in the St Dgo Office is awaiting you on the 2nd floor 2 meters aside the Cashier, he does not wear any Unform but He has the official Sticker on/Batch on His Shirt, and I find they work quiet very well effective, a hassle free process even for the non spanish speakers I saw there come and go.

Is there any places you can renew your c?dula on the north coast or do you need to go to Santo Domingo.
