So this came up. With the new format, news headlines are posted as threads. We are reminded, for example, discussions around religion belong in off topic, I think one had mentioned. It looks like the news posts dictate the theme, however. Please see the example from today:

I personally cannot see how a conversation around the Catholic priest news post would not be about religion. I myself replied to this, forgetful of the site policy.
