⚠️ Attention drivers on the Las Americas Highway! ⚠️

A new assault mode has been reported where impudent people throw **burnt oil from the heights** onto the windshields of vehicles. This aims to get the driver to stop and then get robbed.

🚫 What to do if it happens to you? 🚫

1. Don't stop on the highway. Try to get to a safe place or gas station.

2. Use the emergency lights and stay calm.
3. Call 911 and report the situation for immediate assistance.

💡 Remember:

Your safety comes first. Avoid impulse reaction and keep driving to a safe place. Share this message and let's stay alert! 🚨

My guess this is at night because I've always felt safe on the autopista (well, Dominican drivers excepted).

This sounds like the bogus "Devils Breath" report. Completely unfounded. But what a great way to make people stay off the road.

Reminds me of a lawsuit. Someone said they were hypnotized by a slot machine and forced to put all their money in the machine.

They throw rocks onto windshields on highways for years here (and not only on highways). Usually after 7 PM. No surprise if they invented to throw something else. The purpose is the same, you stop (or lose control of the vehicle and crash), they rob you. Welcome to paradise.

Watch this and learn..................I know a person here that got hit with this in Bavaro...........

You've been pushing this this scopolamine propaganda for a few years now. Many of your posts would suggest you bring decent insight and experience to the table, but this sort of voodoo horse hockey is working against that reputation. The pharmacologic intent is for motion sickness, muscle spasms or otherwise general relaxant. Do you understand the chemistry behind how to acheive the concentration and laboratory processes required to convert this into your purported magical fairy dust. Come on man.

A guy gets drunk and passes out. This has been going on for a hundred years. He has to blame someone.

I stop all the time on the highway, to urinate, buy whatever from a store run errands, never ever have I had a problem. That circle turn by the military base on Ave February is as scary of a place I have seen at night, never have I had a problem. Street vendors dangle everything in front of you but the kitchen sink completely distracting drivers. Never have I heard of robberies there. I heard the area is called the ring of fire, but I don't know why.

Do you know what highway is? What it has to do with your shopping around Av. 27 de Febrero?

If you are interested where they throw rocks onto windshields, I can tell you that it happens almost every day after 7 PM on the highway between Santo Domingo and Santiago in the Villa Altagracia area. If you think it doesn't happen in tourist areas, it happens regularly at the entrance to the Boulevar de Juan Dolio from Autovia del Este.

And by the way, it already started to happen once in a while in Santo Domingo on Av. Cayetano Germosen (south of Mirador Sur park).

I am no expert but a rock would seem to be more accurate, dangerous to the vehicle and less dangerous to the evildoer. That doesn't mean to say that logic has to play a role in the enterprise.

and they also throw "burnt" oil like the thread indicates. But of course, happens at every overpass, be careful. Make sure you have plenty of windshield wiper fluid to combat this epidemic.

This rock throwing on Autopista Duarte makes news regularly at least since 2014.

A couple of examples:

You can google for more.

As I remember, a few years ago some transportation companies said they cancel their bus services after 6 PM on Autopista Duarte for that reason.

Regarding this burnt oil thing, It's something new that I have never heard before, but there is always a first time for everything

Plenty of rocks thrown off of overpasses in the US, also, and many deaths have been the result. Throwing oil seems like a clever twist. No way your wipers are going to get that off - probably just make it worse. It would be very difficult to see where you're going. Natural instinct would be to stop and clean the windshield - and then you get robbed.

Circle Turn? The rotunda on Ave. 27 de Feb and Ave. Luperon called the "Plaza de la Bandera? There is a Military Base/college on the south side and many vendors to the west in front of Burger King.

And why they do it in US? Here in DR the reason is always the same: Los ataques presumiblemente se realizan con intenciones de provocar accidentes de tránsito o que los conductores se detengan y poder despojarlo de sus pertenencias.

They throw the rock onto your car, you lose control of your car, get off the road, maybe roll over, anyway, they get into the car and instead of helping you, take everything they can take, including your shoes. Honestly, I can't imagine such thing happening in US. Not for this reason, at least.
