Some of you may be waiting for your renewal.....Having NEXUS makes re-entry to Canada from the DR easier.
It's equivalent to Global Entry for Americans.

My anniversary was Jul 31. I applied the allowed 3 months early and got a new card.

My wife's date is August 19 but she was later than 3 mo in her application.
She's still waiting

Why would a Canadian returning from the DR need NEXUS in the first place?

Rhetorical...Since they are trying to save a buck by flying thru the US.which I have chosen to avoid. The hassles are simply not worth it to me.

Re: the article where it's discussing the reasons for closing offices and "holding Nexus hostage" all stem from control...and basically bullying. The US wants "immunity from Canadian prosecution while doing their job in Canada. " and I say that the US border personnel are some of the worst, rudest, and most arrogant I have EVER come across since they know they can get away with anything, destroy a person's life, and freedom of movement, no matter how unjustified, simply because they choose to. And we have no comeback. NONE.

That said I am free to come and go as I please while following the "rules" but don't find it worth it and cheerfully pay for direct flights and avoid any interaction with US border control.

Of course, everyone else is free to do what they feel they need and/or think is best for them...but I'll never do it again if it can be avoided.... simplemente no vale la pena ;)

The benefit of having a Nexus when returning to Canada ? How about skipping the immigration lines and going right to the express, saving sometimes an hour wait.
Rarely if ever an issue for me. When I flew into Canada last month I was not required to speak with anyone, used the automated systems having filled out the awesome ArriveCAN app, and only briefly took general direction about which line to stand in like everyone else. I was out in less than 20 minutes and most of that was the walk from the plane to immigration. There would have been no advantage. The same can be said as my normal experience for many years.

On one trip to Europe, 2/4 of us had Nexus and they saved perhaps 10/a few minutes going and had no advantage on the return...so in my experience and IMO it's not worth the expense or aggravation to get, especially now, and if one needs to go to the US for appointments to get it in the first place...for those of us that choose not to travel to or through the US.

Of course, all are free to do what they like and choose ;)

D'Arcy....

The NEXUS works when entering the US & Canada --- no, I don't fly thru the US to get Canada
but
Try flying into Newark without it....YYZ can be difficult depending on your arrival time

and then, of course, when you cross by car..... whole different story

I understand that we may have different perspectives. I'm not taking away from yours even though it is very different than mine. I thought I'd made it clear and trust that it is now.

It's not worth it to me. It seems to be for you. Some of my friends swear by it but they often travel to and through the US while I chose not to.

IMO Nexus simply should not be necessary. For whatever reasons we have been forced to accept the status quo of poor service and a lack of rights and viable options for the masses when endulging in air travel. I've learned to work around or work with the system to my satiusfaction.

If you feel the need for a service then, as always, ......

Do you! (And don't for one moment think that I would take that from you or anyone else) ;)

Well, that's the first time I have heard Arrive Canada app called anything positive. Having said that my Canada Customs out of Vancouver was quick and without issues as was my arrival in Toronto. I had courtesy customs here in POP.

It's not gone, it's optional and when used as directed it's a valuable and simple to use tool. It was easy to use and complete with nothing needed and it greatly improved the experience of coming back to Canada.

I'm not at all sure that there were any valid reasons for all the complaining about it. I and my travel companions, as well as anyone I've personally discussed it with all found it simple and easy to use and invaluable to the process.

"People" love to and complain and if their Gov't party is not in power use that as an excuse to complain about things that are in fact good and useful.

I will continue to use it for future trips and if and when it's changed or updated I plan to continue to use it in whatever form whether mandatory or optional.

It was a deterrent for cross border Americans coming to casinos, etc for a day.... BIG numbers there
It was a deterrent because they chose to make it one. Are you really telling us that you found it hard to use?

Literally everyone I know who has traveled since it came out, at a guess 40+ people, had little if any technical issues with the app. Some complained about having to use any app, 1 did not use a smartphone, but their companions did it for them and none thought it was an issue once they'd used it.

I refuse, as policy, to let a bunch of whiny, self-important foreigners dictate policy, generally, and also in this specific case where it's clearly a benefit...screw them...and frankly anyone than needs to make a fuss over something so simple and beneficial.

You may now have the last word WW. Luckily for you, it's now optional so you and the other wingers can safely opt-out and quit complaining about nothing.

First rule on the internet: NEVER read the comments.

I looked at the first couple of dozen and it's clear that some people should just stay home. It's not difficult to use and the reviews were mostly just a bunch of whining.
Also please explain how this works...
