Nine reported dead in senior home for Covid-19

The Ministry of Public Health has intervened the San Francisco de Asis senior home in Santo Domingo. Nine seniors reportedly have died for Covid-19. The director of the center, a Colombian nun, Juliana Bailon is in the intensive care unit at the Marcelino Velez Santana hospital. Two other nuns are hospitalized. Another 12 persons are in isolation.

The Ministry of Public Health says that at the center, 13 seniors tested positive and 13 are waiting for test results and are in isolation.

Geriatrician Rosy Pereyra Ariza attributed to Covid-19 the deaths of another four home residents, she said that have died recently.

There are media reports that early in April, staff at the senior home had sought testing with no avail.

The National Council for the Aging (Conape) has been active assisting the center since the middle of June.
