Typical ambulance provided by the gov to the Dominican Red Cross. Who were tasked with transporting patients in the country, free of charge to the larger Hospitals for extended care not available in the smaller towns and villas.
Drivers were from the Armed Forces or Police, and had to report all patients carried to the central command on arrival from dispatch. Circa 1940.

Pastries vendor, 1941. Vendors had to carry their goods protected from dust and exposure to the Sun, only able to open their carriers and display their goods to clients at point of sale. If they were found otherwise the goods were confiscated by the police and the vendor fined and put in jail. Trujillo's order...
