"The new Agreement builds on a framework of U.S. Open Skies agreements with over 135 other partners that enable U.S. air carriers to operate and expand flight networks beyond America’s borders and connect the U.S. economy to growing markets."

hmm...when will we see a difference?
After the competition begins to fly. Were you just expecting prices to fall over an agreement?

When you purchase a R/T ticket to DR, the taxes are almost $200 alone.
Airlines need to price their tickets at a certain amount to pay foe the operations and make a profit. Maybe thr government should reduce the various taxes that are charged and that will bring the price of the ticket down.

Unrelated side note: I learned that if you purchase.a checked bag online, there is no ITBIS (sales tax) charged. However, if you purchase at the airport during check in, sales tax is charged.
