Operacion Calamar: Three former ministers during Medina administration arrested for alleged big-time corruption

Former Minister of Hacienda Donald Guerrero, former Minister Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ramon Peralta and former Minister of Public Works and Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) presidential candidate in 2020, Gonzalo Castillo were arrested and are now at the Palacio de Justicia of Ciudad Nueva awaiting pre-trial custody measures.

The investigation has been ongoing for years. The preliminary indictment of the Public Prosecutor’s Office against the defendants is for the association of criminals, embezzlement, a coalition of officials, falsification of public and private documents, bribery and illicit campaign financing on an unprecedented scale, and money laundering, among others.

Corruption in large or small doses has been occurring in nearly all Latin countries for many years and the game of imprisoning opposition political figures is most common in Latin and African countries . Seems this method is used in other countries to make grandstand arrests to make it seem the current administration's political opponents are dangerous dudes.

I am beginning to think Abinader is no different than any other corrupt politician, and beware when his party loses an election because he will be subject to serious payback.

It is very sad to see this country go along this path of imprisoning political opponents . To some extent it may because new ministers always bring in their cronies into their departmental offices and there is much less of a non political public service that one finds in the British system of Government that has been copied world wide. It was always thought that Leonel led a very corrupt government but corrupt practices were more common because of all the infra structure projects ,and thus all the contracts , he commenced. Before Leonel it was thought that Mejia was both corrupt and inept. Now this slippery slide has commenced I doubt if anyone of quality will put himself forward to serve in a Government and we will have only very ordinary, mediocre people wanting to be politicians . If there has been large scale corruption it should not be difficult to follow the money trail to the bank accounts of those politicians involved . To date there have been no reports of irregular bank transactions,

The anti-corruption operations: Operación Antipulpo, Coral, Medusa, and now Operación Calamar.

Operación 13 did not involve theft during the PLD administration; it was related to cheating during the lottery drawing that took place on 1 May 2021.

The National Lottery administrator at the time of the fraud, Luis Maisichell Dicent, was named to the post by president Abinader, and was jailed as a result of the scandal, but was found innocent of all charges.
