President Luis Abinader presented his administration’s Oportunidad 14-24, a program intended to turn around the lives of young people ages 14 to 24 years in vulnerable households. The program reaches out to youths who are not studying nor working but are in the capacity to do so (Ninis). It seeks to encourage vulnerable youths to engage in educational and work opportunities to learn new skills in short courses, finish school or university studies, get internships and jobs or become entrepreneurs. Abinader says that the program has been recognized as the most complete in Latin America.
The program has already reached out to 44,000 young people of which 14,000 have graduated after taking courses in IT, hair styling, accounting and the culinary and hospitality arts.
The program falls under the Gabinete Social of the Presidency.
