Zoe Saldaña has been nominated for the Oscars. Apparently, this makes her one of the most influential in Hollywood (according to the article.)

The moment her name appears.

Same my daughter is Dominican herself but not real American. This what I mean. She is not Dominican at all, mostly American, why? She born in US not in DR. Her birth Certificate will state: US Citizen NOT Dominican.

Citizenship has nothing to do with someone identifying as Dominican. Just like someone saying they are of Italian descent. They were not born in Italy, but one or both parents, grandparents, etc... were, so they identify as Italian. If you are American, then your daughter can identify as American also, regardless of where she is born. Your citizenship has nothing to do with your heritage. In other words, you do not have to be born in the DR to be considered Dominican.

Copy paste from Emilia Perez Wikipedia:
Overview
A Mexican lawyer is offered an unusual job to help a notorious cartel boss retire and transition into living as a woman, fulfilling a long-held desire.
I think Zoe plays the lawyer

It is more of a musical, but you summed up the storyline in your post. I still do not see how it could be nominated for so many awards, 13, I think. Yes, Zoe played the lawyer.

I just watched it tonight on Netflix, pretty good movie. Could be a double win for Netflix in Karla Sofía Gascón as best actress, along with Zoe in the supporting category.

Karla Sofía Gascón becomes first openly trans actress nominated for Oscar

I may have liked it better if it did not lean toward a musical. The storyline was interesting I just could not get past the musical tone.
I'm a big Zoe fan, but 13 nominations is absurd.

The music struck me as the same crap you see on ticTok of people making up songs as they go. Gascon looks like a man wearing a dress.

She is NOT dominican but her father is. The media dont know how to tell the facts.
Different from the Oscars, but…

Have yet to see that reaction of a Dominican president to a non-Dominican. Not even foreigners naturalized as Dominican get that attention.

I thought the story had an interesting premise but I did not like many things (like the lawyer character taking the money and forgetting she wanted to fight for justice and then suddenly decides to join up once the Gascon character finds her, that all the ex-cons helping the new movement without figuring who the new lady sponsoring the movement is, no one investigating how this lady popped up in town with money to throw around suddenly, the other cartels not taking an interest once the bodies are being dug up, the Gascon character not finding out that this wife was fucking around at the peak of his power etc). I also (personal opinion) thought the musical approach was detrimental to the story and it could have been better told without being a musical. I suppose then it would have been a short film
