I thought I'd mention this again. If you're a Paella lover, you're missing out if you don't prepare one of these once in a while.

Most stores here have Goya and Vigo Paella dinners.

Most also carry the "Salpicon de Mariscos" mix

I use my rice cooker to make this. Dump in the Water, Paella mix, seafood, and a little olive oil. Close the top, select "Rice" and you're done.

Come back in 30 minutes or so, and you're good to go. Let it stay on the warmer for an hour or so more, and you have the worlds best "con-con"

I make this almost every week, and it lasts me for a minimum of 3 days. Good eating!

Jumbo in POP usually makes paella and sancocho on the weekends (one on Saturday, one on Sunday) in their bakery/deli area. This morning I saw one of the workers loading a cart with the fixings for paella. I've had their sancocho, it's good. JD's suggestion looks good too...I'll have to check if they have one of the rice mixes. 😋

I'm sure they do. The best part is being able to add whatever seafood you desire. I always add the "salpicon" and sometimes shrimp, calamari, octopus and clams. I added some "Chillo" to the one I made yesterday.

I tried this today using the 8 oz package of Viga. The instructions on the box was to boil 1 1/2 cups of water for stovetop cooking. So I used that amount in my rice cooker. Was probably a little too much water. I added part of a package of frozen seafood medley ( different brand than you suggested ).

All in all - it was very good. A little too moist so I’ll cut back on the water next time. Eazee peezee

If this "seafood" comes in frozen bags at Dominican supermarkets, better to cut out the middle man and move to direct ingestion of heavy metals, PCBs and dioxins.

Glad you mentioned that! I've learned the rice-water ratio for my rice cooker, so will measure the rice mix as I put it in the cooker and add the approprate amount of water. Did you thaw and drain the seafood medley first? If not, that would probably add around 1/4 or so of water too.

I do, and that quantity goes towards the water needed according to the instructions.

I did thaw and drain the seafood. But didn't measure the rice mixture. I will next time and adjust rice-water ratio that my cooker requires.

I empty the water from the package into my measuring glass and add water to it to reach the amount required by the instructions.

Comes out perfectly every time.

So I tried the Vigo paella rice mix. I measured the rice in the cup that came with my rice cooker, it was just over one of those, Normally I cook two of those cups of white rice, with two cups of water. So, I used a little more than one cup of water. The small can of seafood and veggies added a little liquid too. I purchased about 1/3 of a pound of pre-cooked 50-60 count shrimp to add toward the end (thawed and drained). My rice cooker switched to the "keep warm" mode too quickly, before the rice was done. I reset it a couple times, with a little more water and also did the plastic bag trick under the lid to hold in the steam. Once it was all done, I had one large portion to enjoy for lunch 😋 If I were to do this again, I would either buy two boxes or go with a larger choice like the Goya. That would work better in my rice cooker, I think.

Nacional sells a paella pack in their fish section which has all the seafood and fish for a paella. And they also sell paella rice with the coloring in separate bags to the kit, works out a lot cheaper than buying that vigo kit.

If you have a lot of people to feed it's a very easy meal, much easier than a barbecue.

Nacional's seafood pack is the best of the bunch.
