We went there about a year ago and Palenque was a mess. Beach was trashed, construction going on. Today everything seemed put together, clean beach, new buildings finished, etc. Definitely visit Blu Mar. My daughter got splashed by a wave so I had to wrap her up in my shirt. If you are visiting DR always wear a white undershirt, you will feel cooler. My friend from Switzerland did not bring any and was melting in the heat!

The undershirt I am wearing in the photo was made in DR and has no seams, so they must be using one of those expensive Italian machines that creates the shirt from thread instead of cutting two pieces of fabric snd sewing them together.

Our go-to beach. We usually go to the right to Cocolandia though. Cobraboy takes his motorcycle tours to the left end where you were. Mr AE tried fishing off that jetty/pier last time we went. He didn’t stay long because about 50 kids and adults were watch him like he was from another planet. 🤣

One of the first beaches I ever visited in the DR so many years ago.

None of these beaches are worth a penny in San Cristobal, Nizao, Bani.

Need to go to Barahona and beyond to see white sands and blue seas.

Riiiight. Apparently, if a beach isn't white sand with crystal clear blue waters, kids will not be happy at all. Nevermind what is very clearly seen in the photos.

Cocolandia is also my favorite beach in the DR. Very peaceful midweek. I spent many lazy afternoons there, just me a few others and the sand crabs.
The food is excellent and the prices were reasonable and the service was very friendly. It is a great beach for children. I taught taught a half a dozen kids how to swim there.
I used to spend weeks at a time in the Hotel Playa Palenque with Don Pedro and his wife. Very relaxing.
There were several condo developments going on the last time I was there. I hope it didn't change the laid back nature of the place.
I know it got messed up over the past few years with some strong storms. Did they repair the Cocolandia section?

No need for the semantic, its very clear; no one likes a beach with mud as sand.

BTW, kids play with everything and pretty much happy with anything and I mean anything....even mud

Apparently you are not putting attention to the people in this thread calling it a lovely beach and their favorite beach. It's the same place you seem terrified of. Even Trujillo had a house near there (Najayo beach I think, still looks very similar to this one) and he owned the whole country back then. The beach was the same then as it's now.

The BW photo (#182419) with your daughter and her shadow on the beach, PRICELESS and the perfect screen saver for her daddy. ;)

Should I feel"ostracized?

LOL

This would be the time where you could go back and count the replies; lovely vs favorite vs terrified.....give us the headcount once complete.

The mention of Trujillo comes as a needless aphorism.

Why would anyone care IF Trujillo thought the beach back then was lovely or not, some of us like to make our own minds. My statement stays, the beaches in San Cristobal, Nizao and Bani -- all are much less attractive than most beaches in the DR.

The beach was clean, not muddy, that i remember. But a year ago or so it seemed messy. The sand is a little dark. Not sure i would attempt a swimwear photo shoot there. Not enough of a background for catalog photos on the beach, but could get some nice shots in that area. I have been to cocolandia and we nearly went there last weekend but decided to go to the restaurant at the last moment. It was a spontaneous trip and we arrived after 5pm. Had we gone a bit earlier in the day probably would have gone over that way.

I was just there this past weekend eating fried fish and seafood -- the food is great, the beach has a lot to be desired. There are way too many choices of extremely beautiful beaches in the DR to even consider to come and spend tine anywhere in the vicinity of San Cristobal, Nizao or Bani. That would be a total waste of time.
