HOLA, we're thinking about the PARADISE BEACH CLUB AND CASINO for a holiday real soon. It's at Playa Dorada as you will already know if you can give me some quick info.

If you have stayed there or know of the resort please send me your impressions and recomendations.

Gracias John

It is in a large complex. approx. ll hotels, golf course, casinos, horse and buggys. Nice place but, you have to leave and go out and see the DR. If you are not adventurous, take a tour.
enjoy

I agree with sandra - get off the compound and see a bit of the DR. A good start is to go into town and have supper and drinks at Cafe Cito. It is cheap, safe and locals hang out there. The owner will see that you get a cab back to your hotel. Make sure you get to Sosua beach. The guys at the front door of the hotel can arrange for a taxi to deliver and pick you up at an appointed time for a set fee. Pay on the return trip only. It is the best beach in the area. If you stick to the compound you will see little of the real island.

I think its worth it, its located in a complex of about 13 or 14 hotels; the biggest complex in the north coast. There you?ll get everything there is to get on a dominican Holiday. 18 hole Golf course, beautiful beaches, night entertainament, Casino, Discos, water sports, horseback riding and from the hotel you can arrange any kind of tours you wish to the hole country. It is true, the fact that you?ll have to go out of the complex if your intentions are to get to know the country for real.
I?m a dominican and almost every summer I spend half a month in the project. I?ve been in four hotels in that complex already, nothing to regret. By the way, dont forget to visit crazy moon, the hotels disco. Have a good trip.

What else would you suggest to do in PP

We were in that complex a few years ago just for one week and are going back for two weeks. Any other suggestions on things to do in Puerto Plata. I like the grocery stores, hardware stores etc that the locals shop in! Where is a good place to buy rum to take home? We have been to Cafe Cito and plan to go back. The taxi drivers/guides in front of the hotel warn you not to go into town on your own as the shop owners will hassle you. What do you think about that? Also, please see my post of Dec 26 re Sosua and respond if you wish. Gracias!

Cafe Cito is of course a good bet. A really good store is Casa Nelson. They have an efficient staff and is patronized by Dominicans and Gringos alike. It is very close to the Central Park and easy to find. Ask anyone in the area. If you need a cold one or two, you might enjoy Sam's Bar and Grill also near the park. It's an American style bar, lots of bs flying around and very friendly. Joanne, one of the owners, is from Philly.

Thanks Richard I'll check it out!

I know the guys will be looking for a cold one or two and Sam's sounds great! We're from Ontario, Canada. By the way, when we were there 2 years ago we took in a Festival, parades, street vendors, etc. Do you know when this takes place in 2001? Thanks!
