Paso Higüeyano is a type of horse breed created through centuries of purposeful mating between horses in the Higüey area. Today they are considered to be one of the finest horses in the DR. Some time ago Cap Cana held a Paso Fino horses competition with horses from around the world and the event was opened by several Paso Higüeyano horses, beginning the Dominican horse breed to get international recognition. Countries such as Colombia invited Paso Higüeyano horses to one of its competition based on the impressives of the horse type as seen in Cap Cana. Until then it was known only in the DR.

Seeing that this is the best Dominican horse breed and it's gaining international recognition, should Paso Higüeyano become a marca país of the Dominican Republic? Is Paso Higüeyano the first breed of horses from the Caribbean getting international recognition?

From 1:36 to 5:02 this guy explains how the Paso Higüeyano began to be known internationally (in Spanish).

Not impressed with your videos.
I'd be interested to know if Adopaso in S.D. has an interest since this might tail into the Paso Fino that came with Cristobal Columbus second voyage. Office in the fairgrounds.

One of my cousins in Higüey has had two of these stallions. One of them won several trophies in the AGANI fair.
They are the most comfortable horses to ride, but are now too expensive.

The Paso Fino originated in the Dominican Republic to my understanding. Unlike other gaited breeds, their gaits are natural and not as much the result of excessive training or spurring.

What breed standards set the Paso Higüeyano apart from the Paso Fino?

Wikipedia was somewhat helpful but didn’t make any distinguishment from the Paso Fino.
