Closed by the mayor

Glad to hear it. Very unfair competition for the other bars that operate according to the rules and pay all the taxes.

It wouldn't have been allowed to operate this long if anyone else was the owner.

So the old mayor wife bar is now closed down the new deputy mayor bar is the only one prepared for the change in zoning :ermm:

I am told by a passer by, something was going down about an hour ago with military, suits and the owner. I do not want to speculate or embellish anything, as many here enjoy added drama in their spare time.

Now more important, I have to go purchase some adult beverages.

to bad the poor unconnected girls are not as lucky as you maybe you can use your influence with your Family members to put a stop to the police state now in affect in sosua

I believe you completely miss-read me, please revisit my last post and read carefully. I didn?t say that I HAD family members in high places. Allow me to rephrase what I said, and please correct me if I?m wrong,

That I?m not in danger of being held for 48 hours under suspicion for something that I haven?t done NOT BECAUSE I have some family member in government to have me released, (this is the important part) BUT because I?m an early bird, meaning that I?m in the house by 8 at night. AND that I?ve never ever been confused for a prostitute.

And finaly that I?m not a law breaker, and being the low-key type of guy that I am, I don?t raise suspicion to law enforcement.

Hope this clears things up for you.

95% of Dominicans consider Sosua to be a crap hole and they avoid it.
Even those that have never been there, talk about it as if it's full of ho's, pedophiles and crackheads etc. That's how it is,....

Not consider, it is! :pirate:

Robert and NALs,
Robert, thanks for the statistics about the 95% of Dominicans.
NALs, are you in that original 95% or trying to increase the percentage with your intelligent post?

now we know why pedro clisante is like a police state

Some of you guys and gals are completely off the charts with your negative comments and strong negative opinions about other people, their motives and etc. I'm not saying its not good to get things off your chest because this country does have lots of frustrations, but it to me many of the comments are way over the top...

....true, but it's way more entertaining than any "reality TV" programming and totally interactive.

Actually I've never heard an American says any such thing about the DR. Certain areas of the the DR are like that, they are almost, not quite though, as bad as many American inner cities or other slums. Every year my wife takes her teachers and their families to a resort for a weekend, usually around 50-60 people in total. Not once has anyone suggested that she take them to Sosua, and most of these are people who like to dance and party. Sosua doesn't have an appeal to a great deal of Dominicans although I'm not sure of the reasons.

Not once has anyone suggested that she take them to Sosua, and most of these are people who like to dance and party. Sosua doesn't have an appeal to a great deal of Dominicans although I'm not sure of the reasons.

I think the main reason is that it's not really a "resort" destination for Dominicans, or anyone for that matter. When people think of a Caribbean Beach Resort vacationin the DR, even the locals, they think of Punta Cana, Playa Dorada, Bayahibe, even Samana or the South West area...they don't think of a small town without one really nice hotel/resort, and a small crowded beach.

I'm not bashing or defending Sosua, just stating my opinion of what Sosua is...a multi-National small town with a small but decent beach, cheap hotels, pretty good selection of restaurants, and a lot of bars on a dark, busy main street. With or without prostitutes and shoe shine boys, this will never compete with the places above, let alone, Jamaica, The Bahamas, The Virgin Islands, etc.

All that said, Sosua as it is has a certain charm that obviously attracts some people, tourists and ex-pats alike. Maybe all this hoopla over cleaning up Sosua will seem silly a few months or a few years down the road, but whomever, or whatever, is behind these fairly major changes, are travelling up a slippery slope that could ruin Sosua for a very long time, possibly permanently.
