Man, you sounds like AZB.

Forget it. I have nothing else to say. :tired::tired::tired:
The thing is that I dreamed all my life to go to NY and when I saw that sh***t I ran away back to Raleigh, people was asking me but you said to stay here for one week. Man I'm claustrophobic I can't live like that.

Do you want to see my video going through the Lincoln Tunnel and in the traffic to pay the toll to get the washington Bridge.

NY is my way of life. You either hate it or love it. I bet I would NOT like Raleigh, but I am not knocking it right?

I do not need to see the video. I cross the bridge all the time. Thanks anyway!!!!

You seem to enjoy the food though!

Well apparently one can at least wear shorts in the US without getting told what a disgrace one is for not blending in correctly in the city!??:bunny::bunny:;);)

As long as one doesn't have them hanging criminally low around one's arse, of course.;)

RacerX must be some good drugs you are on today. You diss the culture and Dominicans in Miami because of someone dissing Dominicans in NY. Pot meet kettle. Good friends of ours moved from NYC to Orlando 2 years ago after 23 years in NYC. They prefer the weather in Orlando, the job market, the more relaxed attitude....etc. Theses Dominican Yorks are now confirmed Floridians and have no intention of returning to NYC. My wife has many relatives in the USA and none live in either NYC area or Miami. Boston, Northern Virginia, Atlanta, Houston, Denver....etc. Dominicans are everywhere and NYC may be the big Apple but there is plenty of rot in that apple.

OK, now that you finished watching Beat Street in Hi-Def. I didnt insult anyone. I just made a comparison of how mundane life is in Miami compared to NY and offered up a few essential drawbacks that I found when I lived in Miami. To be clear the insult against Dominicans in NY was that these people were trash, unsophisticated and unrefined as though you could really wear that on your sleeve or it comes with a laminated ID card and Stetson hat. Most people who leave NY and stay out do so because of SPACE. They like the SPACE. SPACE to do and be and basically CONSUME. The job market in Orlando you say? Look again bub, Florida is one of those states with the 10% unemployment and a burgeoning housing crisis...in addition to not being concerned about paying living wages.
What I am tired of is the presumption that Dominicans who live in NYC or Boston are somehow uneducated and non-intellectual because there is a compromise that comes with living in the big cities that you dont have in other cities. Of course, they dont offer the same educational opportunities in Florida or North Carolina like they do in NY or Mass. You ll see when you re kids want to go to school and there is no program to help them enter nor complete.

I dont know about Bronxboy but when I went to school, I went to the State Uni. of NY and I got in through the EOP Program(aka EOF in New Jersey). EOP is a program that ensures tuition for economically disadvantaged residents of NYS to go to public colleges/universities/technical(A&T, A&M) schools. It was called HEOP for the private colleges/universities. You can hate Dominican Yorks all you want but they aint got nothing like that in Florida. Just a bunch of idiots going to Miami Dade Community College getting an Associates Degree in something and still functionally illiterate in English.

And if you think NY is rude and violent, you have NEVER been to Miami. They make homicide look like a cable cooking show. And rude? Yea you never spoken to a Miami person who knows everything about everything but nothing about nothing.

I went to school in the CUNY system with the help of TAP, PELL GRANT, and student loans.

One of the reasons I left Miami was exactly what RacerX said. They swore they knew everything but knew nothing!!!!! Then I moved to Boynton (way too boring) and finally Hollywood. Hollywood was nice.

Miami is very cruel against Puerto Ricans but that is another story and not something to be discussed on a Dominican site.

Anyway, I was in a NY state of mind back then and still am. I am not a Dominican York but will support them until the end.!!

Peace and unity is what I strive for. Respect to be respected. Treat everyone the way you would like to be treated.

Bronxboy for president. lol only kidding:cheeky:

Bob, you are a respected poster but I am a bit appalled at this comment.:ermm:

As I previously said, I lived in Florida for two years and did not like. I came back to where I felt most comfortable. Remember, NY is not just NYC.

I understand that this is your opinion but please respect where some of us call home.

Why? Nobody respects Kansas. Your not there anymore. Of course me either

I just told you on the 2nd or 3rd page. They like and live in Miami because they can get on and about their business with no deviation from the norm as they would if they travelled or lived in Santo Domingo or Colombia or Venezuela. The comfortability of the use of the language makes you at ease because you KNOW you can do anything you want to do and not be on the outside. You can land in MIA or FLL and go through Customs, pick up your luggage, get a taxi, go to your hotel, go out on the town, etc. ALL IN SPANISH. And for the classist this means they dont have to lower themselves, their standards or their expectations because of the inability to manage another language as what may happen if you flew into LGA, JFK, or Newark. Those same people would NEVER drive from Miami to Orlando or Orlando to Raleigh. Or Miami to NY, because of the uncertainty that they would feel when they got into a place in a language they cant work. Since Florida is so flat, radio reception travels a long ways, in addition to the stations having the same owners in the same format in the same frequency in a different market, most Dominicans would freak out after they passed Orlando and discovered there are no more Spanish language radio stations until you get to DC. I know this for a fact. When I was married, we drove from Miami to NY. Its takes 7 hours to get out of Florida on I-95(350 miles from Miami to the Georgia State Line). DR isnt 350 miles long in any direction. She couldnt take the trip...Hahaha! She didnt know the US was that long. Trips in DR maybe 3-4hours but you only went 70 miles at an average speed of 40 mph stopping in every town. Too much for her...Especially when we got to Maryland and the temperature dropped to 40 degrees. Or when we were in a rest area in South Carolina and she saw a squirrel(ardilla). She thought it was a rat with a bushy tail.

Raxerx, you are right!!! yes those are the reason I would like to move to Florida.
Fort Lauderdale & West Palm Beach areas are nice place to live. Miami is to hot and the traffic is horrible.
This is my next challenge, can you realize been only one hour and 45 minutes from DR. when I fly from Raleigh it takes all day because the transfer at MIA and it is alot more expensive.

Yes, you are absolutely correct - Florida State, and University of Florida are both second rate schools compared to CUNY....etc, NOT. Florida is not just Miami. There are numerous grants, scholarships....etc provided by the state of Florida. Current unemployment rate in Orlando is 11.4% and in NYC 8.8% but unemployment rates are subjective - it all depends on what your line of work is.

................Then I took her on a trip to California. We were walking through the Marina district in San Francisco CA with a view of the Golden Gate bridge and San Francisco Bay. She stopped and said, "If Dominicans could see this place they would forget about New York!"

Yeah. It's a nice place to visit. Once you move there it's different. Everyone with a hint of Latino gets treated like a "wetback". A friend of mine transferred to SoCal from DC. She's Hispanic but 3rd generation native born American and doesn't speak Spanish. She works in the legal field and makes an excellent living. In a year she was miserable because the level of covert racism, generalization and misconceptions against all Latinos hit her as a complete surprise. There is nothing on that level on the East Coast.

Decent Dominicans living abroad are respected by everyone, Dominican-York (those who are absorbed into the urban ghetto culture and/or lack the most basics of civility) are marginalized and ridiculed by everyone; avoided as if they're the plague. Among the poor, they probably act interested while the Dominican-York is visiting for pure economic reasons, but behind their backs the chismes are flying left, right and center.

Anyone wants to get a full understanding of how much disdain there is for the Dominican-York, please read the following (use a translator if you have to); it hits the nail right on the head:

Los "dominican york": Corrupci?n y difamaci?n

If anyone feels offended by what Daniel Adriano G?mez wrote, please understand that he simply expressed a deeply ingrained belief among the decent Dominicans living on the island and abroad.

@Nals. Thanks for sharing. My problem is that Daniel Adriano speaks of us as a plague. The so called corrupt Dom-Yorks are no worse than the big narcs or money launderers from over there. His statements are parallel to those people that say that people from the ghetto are the worst criminals, when in fact, as we have seen in our time, the worst crimes are committed in Capitoll Hill and Wall Street. However, it seems easier to use the poor as a scapegoat for our social ills. We accept crime so long it looks good.

Read it. That guys a gas bag! He s one of those revisionist who only see what they want to see. Those people brought all those problems here. As though the problems never existed in absence or in presence of their arrival. The problem is this, your insular culture cannot compete with outside influences first hand. Yea, watching them MTV3 is totally different to having it in your face in your house talking to the his abuela, the very same grandmother you have. This is a copout because even the Dominican women in the US, like Nuala and POPNYChic amongst others who use this website whose names I cant recall right now and my niece who presently lives in Atlanta can all be considered the treacherous Dominican Yorks because it is their sole concern is not to stay at home popping out babies and making con-con as an after dinner snack. To have different goals, more expansive ideals is anathema to the insular island culture and can be considered disrespectful or undesirable. But how do you know it is wrong? And what dude can clearly say that ones clothing is more pornographic than the other? I m assuming he must be talking to the prevalence of tattoos. Because other than that, domestically there is an obsession with the exposition of breasts here that is outrageous.

And I still wonder what they did before the hot comb came here. And according to the Centro Leon, it got here around 1950.
