I was only showing your buddy the light. Before you bad mouth the USA understand that the Dominican Republic and Dominicans have more in common with the USA then Beligum ever could. Go find me one Dominican newspaper where you can read a article about Belgium on a daily basis, but you can always find something about the USA.

He could have went right next door to Germany Netherlands or France, but he jumped on a plane and headed to the party side of the planet. Everybody knows the party is in North America, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. You see BelgianK was searching for us, not the other way around. I do not blame BelgianK for heading over to this side of the pond. Europeans heard the loud music coming from the USA, Central America and Caribbean and wanted to find out what was going on and why the party does not stop. Well he found the party and you could not pay him to head back to Europe.

BTW I am not trapped inside my head, rather " I live inside my mind" Later wolfman.

I am sorry but just have to react here... to put things in perspective

Regarding party-ing... do the words "Monaco-GP", "Marbella", "Ibiza", "Cannes-film festival", "Nice" and "St.Tropez" mean anything to you?

Those are the places the jet-set goes to party... the people that also go to St. Barts and St. Martin... those people don't go to the DR, Las Vegas or to Miami to party.. the DR is a "relatively poor mans" option to retire in the sun, not the pinaccle of having it made.. that would be a big villa at Cap de Antibes..or its American equivalent Nantucket island.

Not to mention the places like "Madrid", "Milan", "Paris", "Barcelona", "Rome", "Florence", "Venice", "Munich", Amsterdam", "London", "Bruxelles"...

Greetings from the European side of the pond :)

Btw to the best of my knowledge Chicago was built by the Polish and Irish immigrants

your knowledge of Chicago is pretty thin. It took a lot of people from everywhere each doing their part to build Chicago just like most of the great cities in the USA, all big melting pots of the worlds cultures.

https://www.wttw.com/main.taf?p=76,4,3,5#greatfire_1871

St Barts and St Martin? Are you kidding? You call a bunch of 80 year olds in string bikinis and speedos partying? Yuuch! If it wasn't for the imported Dominicans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Panamanians, Jamaicans, Grenadians, Guyanans, etc in the Netherland Antilles the place would be a huge snooze fest. Out of the European cities you mentioned, I'll take Paris. Those places are all ridiculously overpriced but Paris is worth it. You think Europeans don't flock to Lake Tahoe, Vail as well as Miami and Las Vegas? You can also find Germans and French all over Oaxaca Mexico where I learned that 2/3 of all the mezcal produced in the region is under contract with German distributors?

I enjoyed most of the time I've spent in Europe (excluding any of the time spent in England) but to compare any of that with the gateway to the New World where music rides on the breeze and freedom isn't a philosophical concept but a feeling shared by all is ludicrous. WTF is a "constitutional monarchy" anyway? What an oxymoron.

Trust me. The same folks who fly into Cannes also fly into Sundance and the same folks who travel to Montreaux to participate in great music also participate in Monterray and Montreal and the same folks who ski the Alps ski the Rockies and Sierra Nevadas.

You don't get around much, do you?

before any hedonistic travel to the north coast or SD of DR you certainly either need expierience or some education from Brett Tate first or you WILL be taken they are not bad people just out to survival. People could use alot more time on this forum before going there thinking they know it all.

Come on, Americans have to go to Europe to find out how to party. Why is the UK such an important place to break for artists when it is such a small place? because the influence it carries is so huge. Ibiza has been the party capital of the world for years, and I know America has its idea of partying and it does differ from the rest of the world, maybe why only Americans consider itself influencial in this area. In the world, it isnt, believe me, only in the mind of Americans and ignorant nations nearby that think the rest of the world is call USA.
DR (Caribbean) a hard party place? lol, yes, everywhere shuts down at midnight when they are partying hard, oooh, and 2am at the weekends? come on, the DR could be a great party place, but right now it isnt. I dunno about elsewhere but Im not hearing much.

You have to admit. European disco was much better than the American version IMO.

Oh please spare the self importance of the music industry in the UK. The Beatles, Rolling Stones and a plethora of their clones reselling sped up blues and recycled Chuck Berry tunes back to America which is where they blew up. Remember Heatwave and Loose Ends? They were living from gig to gig until returning GI's brought their music home and these bands, not unlike the ones mentioned before them took off to reach undreamed of levels of success and financial reward in the USA and as we all know, when it comes to the entertainment industry, what the USA likes the entire World likes and this is why they've got Willie Nelson songs on the karaoke jukeboxes in Tokyo.

As far as the Caribbean as "party place". The bars in the D.R. prior to Summer of 2006 closed when people stopped buying drinks just like most of the rest of the Caribbean. The Domincan Republic that I experianced when I first stepped off the plane was more like one big non-stop party from Thursday - Sunday than anywhere including Las Vegas.

You are funny!!! Why did I not go to Germany, France or Holland? Because then I could have stayed just as well in Belgium.

I did not come here to party, or for the loud music, I came here for the sun, and the beaches.

By the way, I lived in the US, and decided to return to Europe. I lived in Chicago for over a year, and I did not like it. Well, except for the Bulls, I loved them.

You can take your bus or train and imagine yourself in Poland, China, Italy or whatever, but let me assure you, you are not. You may get a small sniff of a country.

Do not get me wrong. I like the US, I like to visit it, and I like my friends there, but would never want to live there. Why? I honestly could not tell you. Just a feeling, I guess.

Do Americans know how to party? Maybe, but not the European way. When we had American friends coming over, they always commented on how Europeans knew how to party. When we lost them, we just looked underneath the table, and hey, there they were... lol

I thought my ex-wife was the best drinker I'd ever know(never hungover, ever) until I became drinking buddies with a Belgian. Never seen anything like it, before or since.

Haha... an expert!!! But I have to admit we get beaten easily by the Hungarians. We once held a dog-competition in Belgium, and a delegation from Hungary came over, bringing their home made grain and fruit liquor as gifts. Wise move on their part. All of us had incredible headaches the day of the competition, and they were fresh as daisies.

from wikipedia:
There have been reported cases of blood alcohol content higher than 1.00. In March 2009, a 45-year-old man was admitted to the hospital in Skierniewice, Poland, after being struck by a car. The blood test showed blood alcohol content at 1.23. The man survived but did not remember either the accident or the circumstances of his alcohol consumption. One such case was reported by O'Neil, and others in 1984. They report on a 30-year-old man who survived a blood alcohol concentration of 1,500 mg/100 ml blood after vigorous medical intervention.
In South Africa, a man driving a Mercedes-Benz Vito van containing 15 sheep, allegedly stolen from nearby farms, was arrested on December 22, 2010, near Queenstown in Eastern Cape. His blood had an alcohol content of 1.6 g/100 ml. Also in the vehicle were five boys and a woman who were also arrested.
In 1995, a man in Wrocław, Poland, had a car accident. At the hospital, his BAC was determined to be 1.48%. Concerned that their equipment was malfunctioning, doctors also performed five separate lab tests, all of which confirmed the man's blood alcohol content. He died a few days later from wounds from the car accident. Police were baffled as to how an individual could attain such a high blood alcohol. Later, police discussions with his brother-in-law revealed that he had "beer bonged" pure grain alcohol allegedly stolen from his place of work, a chemical plant.
In 2004, an unidentified Taiwanese woman died of alcohol intoxication after immersion for twelve hours in a bathtub filled with 40% ethanol. Her blood alcohol content was 1.35%. It was believed that she had immersed herself as a response to the SARS epidemic.
In Poland, a homeless man was found sleeping half-naked on January 28, 2011, in Cieszyn. His blood had an alcohol level of 1.024%. Despite the temperature of −10 ?C and extremely high blood alcohol content the man survived.
In December 2004, a man was admitted to the hospital in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, after being struck by a car. After detecting a strong alcohol odor, doctors at a hospital conducted a breath test which displayed the man's blood alcohol content at 0.914. The man was treated for serious injuries sustained in the crash and survived.
In February 2005, French gendarmes from Bourg-en-Bresse, France, conducted a breath test on a man who had lost control of his car. He had an alcohol content of 0.976. He was not injured in the accident but was charged with a €150 fine and his driving license was canceled.
In 1982, a 24-year-old woman was admitted to the UCLA emergency room with a serum alcohol concentration of 1.5 (1510 mg/dL). She was alert and oriented to person and place. Serum Alcohol Concentration is not equal to nor calculated in the same way as blood alcohol content. (By conversion using BAC=SAC/1.14, this would correspond to a BAC of 1.33.)
In 2012, Oct 26th a man in Poland, Olszewo-Borki had 2.23% - he died in car accident.

noticed a pattern there? :) :p
