Used to breed piggies here with the sole purpose of spit roasting them both for ours and other peoples bbq's. With Margo's amazing marinade they were always perfect!

With their stuff? You mean the company who sold it to you didn't charge for the shipping?
No I shipped a 20 foot container full of household goods and just packed it in that ...shipping alone being heavy gauge steel would be cost prohibitive..

Exactly, any mundanza would ship it. One day we were in a store in NJ having an unadvertised sale on nice gas grills. Mr AE called our guy and asked for a shipping cost. $100. We paid for the grill, and the guy met us in the parking lot with his van and took it away. (Another benefit of cementing relationships 🥰). Delivered to our door in DR.

I’m often surprised how many expats in DR don’t know they exist.

Very true AE...
No matter how much we talk about it

As for the piggies...

around mid-December in my area the prices go up...
but that's not the worst of it......
The boys from STI and other places come looking for 8-9-10.... at a time

No more piggies.

I have 2 cocineros near me... one does about 15-20 at Navidad
the other does 65+....
BIG PIG business

Great thread.
Never purchased a whole pig.
They do several roast a year on
my street. 200- 250 pesos a pound.

You’re right. We’re lucky though. We happen to live across the road from the barrio butcher, and he has pigs, cows, goats, etc somewhere nearby.

What is a mundanza and can you recommend one? I tried to google both "mundanza" and "Awilda" but couldn't find what you both are referring to.

I'm looking to buy https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-COS-244-Vertical-Propane-Smoker/dp/B01GFLYWVK/ . The freight forwarder in Las Terrenas (Mail Boxes Etc.) quotes 10,622 DOP for shipping it. Not too crazy but not great on a 180 USD item:

Do you think I can get a better shipping price elsewhere?

A mudanza is a shipper..... NYC has several, Boston too, Miami

Awilda Shipping is in Corona NY..... one I (and others here) use

Free shipping to them, once there, Awilda will price it for you
I doubt it will be $200
AE's BBQ was $100

Is there a website or whatsapp I can use to contact Awilda? I am in the DR right now and I would ship from Amazon.
