Sking, if you wait a bit, I will get you the best deal in town. So wait, hold your horses and when I would recommend a TV and the price, it will be virtually unbeatable for that time period. I know these things very well. January will be the best time to buy as new models will be out and Tvs will be on sale. So just wait. I always check the prices and sales all over the net.

AZB,
Based on your opinion what would be the price of a Samsung LN52A750 in SD or Santiago?

In DR you will not find a deal. Even with shipping cost and taxes, it comes out cheaper to buy it in USA if you are buying a bigger screen LCD HDTV. The models in DR are old and expensive. Some of them are even refurbished models. They simply take off the refurbished sticker and sell it to you as new.
I buy my stuff from USA and bring it here. If you need to buy an HDTV, then buy one which is about 52 inch in size. This is a good size to watch movies with good sound system. My brother has one, the 1080P 120mhz. Oh boy, all movies feel like studio videos, so sharp and so neat, you can see pimples on actor's face, even make up. I was shocked to see the amazing details. Of course we need an HDTV signal in 1080P format to take advantage of the tv's abilities. Blue ray will also give you full details. Now DR will be broadcasting in full HDTV within a short period of time. The cable companies will be compelled to convert to the new system as well. I would imagine to see at least a few channels in HD format soon in DR.
So please get the real deal now and not be sorry later.
I will direct you to buy the TV in USA and bring it with you in air cargo. I will check in bestbuy and even in walmart and costco. When I will see a deal, I will let you know.
The deal would be unbeatable and the TV will be the best in that price range.

Last time I tried to bring a large item (crate) to the DR, American Airlines said it can not go on the passenger jet, it had to be "Air Freight". This was due to new regulations after 9-11, I was told.

So, SHALENA, chances are it will not be on the same plane that you fly to Santiago on.
Just in case that was what you were expecting......

Keep in mind, if the TV gets broke or does not work when it gets to Santiago, GOOD LUCK!
Make sure it is working okay before you ship it!!!!!

I paid more here at PriceSmart, but it was under warranty for one year!

It would be highly recommended.

I use a full time 110 volt, 60 cycle UPS - it is always on.

It converts the A/C to D/C and runs the Inverter full time to get 110 ac at 60 cycles.
Thus no "transfer time" when power fails.

And I suspect you could have bought the 'Extended Warranty' as well if you had wished to. I believe they can be bought for 12 month & 24 month timeframes.

I think I heard somewhere that there was a 42" Plasma TV roing for RD $50,000 in Santo Domingo over the weejend - maybe in Jan (sfter all the Dom Yoks have left after their Christmas break & the REAL sales start) that you might find a similar 'Bargain' in Santiago or Santo Domingo. ~ Grahame

I am sure it is not the full HD, its 720P older model HDTV. They are selling for really cheap in USA also. This particular model will not give you all the resolution blue ray has to offer. So please if folks you don't know what a full HUTV is, please don't confuse apples with oranges.

The HDTV will be in a huge box, weighing 100 plus pounds. It will not be on the same flight. I will come when they will have space because it will not be priority shipment. This is why it will cost less.

I did not state a model, resolution, style or anything ELSE AZB - just passing on information that was given to me & leaving it at that. I leave comparrisons, criticism & confusion of facts etc to others who are more capable or knowledgable on these subjects! :ermm: :surprised ~ Grahame.
