La musica, el ritmo de la vida!

When I say, 'I was salsa when salsa wasn't cool', I speak to those that didn't enjoy it as much as I did, but who now jump on the bandwagon......

.... Southern Rock, the music of the gods.

Well, nobody jumped on that bandwagon any later than me. December 10, 2002 to be exact. Everything I know about salsa/merengue/bachata, etc I learned in a hole-in-the-wall club in Santiago and from the fine folks at DR1. I am enjoying my education immensely. I didn't realize I was supposed to reply to your Email, Joseito, but I have used all the information you supplied to become a more discriminating buyer of 'latin dance' music. I can go on Half.com, search on Bonny Cepeda and get over 100 results. All the artists that he has produced or CD's he has guested on! It's amazing.

I don't do downloads. It could be a subconscious revolt against my teenage children (I have three). We must have 300 CD-R's scattered in and around four cars and one house. My wife buys 'em buy the gross, I swear. Half are unlabeled. They're constantly underfoot. There's a pile on the kitchen counter. I find them in the bathroom. I have to push them off the driver's seat if one of them has borrowed my car. They're like them Tribbles from Star Trek. They multiply in the dark. They're everywhere!!!!

Boy, did that turn into a rant or what? I don't have enough steam left to rail on southern rock. I did see the Marshall Tucker band within the last five years, I think. They played after an arena football game when st louis still had a team. Maybe 200 people stayed. It reminded me of watching Bob Gibson trot in from the bullpen as a reliever. It's over.
Stevie Ray Vaughn transcends categorization. He's the 'awe' in 'awesome.'
Saw the Allman Brothers in '71. Didn't really know who they were, but a friend of mine told me "you don't wanna miss this." He was right.

Oh, shit!

'Jumping on the bandwagon' does not apply to non-Latins. You guys are welcome. It was meant for those Dominicans that I knew then, and whom used to call me a "sellout" for loving salsa as much as merengue. You're cool. I'm glad you enjoy this stuff.

And no, no reply was necessary. I only hoped that my anti-war, and liberal reputation did not offend you or anybody else.

Trying really hard to resist posting on that war/no-war thread.

I "left for an hour and things got way out of hand! I admire your strenght to resist! How do you think I feel 24/7?

I used to play all the "Eagles" songs in lots of bars in Taipei Taiwan in the early 70,s.

I don't
think much of their ticket prices!

One of my all time favorite groups.
I'm exhausted. I feel like I was in a real war. I'm not bringing it over here, criss.

The Eagles are playing in smaller arenas this time around. Back in '94, they played at Rice Stadium, and the ticket prices were way too high. This desperado can't wait. I'll beg, borrow or steal. Would any of you 'Western Union' me some cash? If you 'Money-Gram' it, you'll save three US$ per hundred. Hurry.

DR1 people, line up outside JFPG Airport next week, just to catch a glimpse of MamIndie's man, the last of the red-hot Latin lovers, and pariguayo extraordinaire. No jewelry, no fancy clothes, no display of wealth, just me. I'll motoconcho to la autopista, then pray for an Higuey-bound guagua. No pictures will be taken.

MamIndie...

Your salsa taste is very good.

SLM, I never included the Merenbooty Girls; a couple of them looked nice. Very nice.

Did anyone here ever experience The Band or Credence in concert? How was it?

The BAND in 1974

When they backed Dylan on his Rolling Thunder tour, his "return" to the stage after 5 or 6 years of recovering from his motorcycle accident and quitting smoking. I practically worshipped Dylan all through junior high school, but that show was a real disappointment except for the Band. They played 7 or 8 songs without Dylan and stole the show. Damn, they rocked!!!! Then bad Bob returned, whined out a few laments and people started leaving. I was one of them. I never thought that would ever happen. Two months later, I joined the Army. Life's just full of twists and turns, isn't it?

st louis mike

who are the merenbooty girls???????

The Band rocked, heh? I knew it. I knew it. My only experience has been watching The Last Waltz , which I think was directed by Martin Scorecese.

The Merenbooty Girls was/is(?) a group of sexy babes who sing remixes of English and Spanish tunes, but to the beat of merengue.

GOLO:

Hey, I now remember that Selecta song you were talking about. I consider it one of the best salsa tunes of all times. La Cuna Blanca was sad, but unquestionably a super-duper salsa classic. And you're right, Sammy Marrero's voice was unique.
