The Dominican National Police has officially activated a specialized anti-noise division aimed at curbing excessive noise levels and improving the quality of life for citizens. The announcement was made by newly appointed Interior and Police Minister Faride Raful.

This new division will be comprised of 19 regional representations and 50 divisions spread across the country. “We expect a more efficient response to noise complaints,” Raful stated.

The establishment of this division comes after a series of recent initiatives by the Ministry, including the “Operation Guarantee of Peace” conducted in Greater Santo Domingo on September 8th. This operation was designed to reduce conflicts and instill a greater sense of security among citizens.

Raful highlighted the success of these efforts, noting a 30% decrease in social conflict indicators.

My friend who works for at the police HQ said that people have come out of meetings with that lady shaking. Don't mess with her she is evidently one who is going to get things done.

Now please can someone do something about the car and lorry horns, this constant beeping drives me crazy.
Lorry? I had to look that one up. The horns don't bother me as much as the absent mufflers. Hate that.

The motto of every Dominican is to produce as much noise as possible, be it car noise, moped noise, music noise, construction noise, or just talk as loud as possible. Without producing unnesessary noise the life of any Dominican loses its purpose and becomes totally useless, so I think these Anti-Noise Measures are totally Anti-Dominican. But Gracias a Dios these measures will not work, as always! They never work and they'll never do.

I have to disagree...I know many, many Dominicans that dislike the loud music, car noise, etc... They actually complain more than expats do.

You must be able to sleep very well at night. Talk to Dominicans who can't because of neighbors blasting music tll sunrise. This shows no respect to anyone but yourself. Is that being Dominican?

Right! They dislike the noise that other Dominicans produce, so they complain about it and the same time produce their own noise as loud as possible!

P.S. do you know what the word 'sarcasm' means? :)

Man, relax. That was just my sarcastic comment to the article (I even marked that it's sarcastic, LOL). Develop some sense of humor, so if next time I write that one of the requirements to get Dominican citizenship is to eat at least two pounds of platanos a day, you don't have to take it seriously.

I am not a man...thank you. Living in the DR for many years, married to a Dominican for many years, sometimes the "sarcasm" goes a little too far. Now back to the noise topic...

The funny thing is that most Dominicans are OK with jokes and sarcasm about themselves, be it about noise, not flushing the toilet or whatever else... but foreigners married to Dominicans always take it dead serious, like "No, how could you say that, my husband always flushes the toilet!"

Back to the subject, on a serious note, UNFORTUNATELY these anti-noise measures will never work, be it Faride Raful or Abinader himself patrolling the streets together with 100500 patrols. Maybe it will work somehow in Distrito Nacional in some expensive neighborhoods like Piantini, but if we talk about DR in general, any anti-noise measures will NOT work for at least next 100 years, and if you don't understand why, ask your Dominican husband then.

First and foremost, I understand much better than you think. Not once did I say they would work or not work. What I said was that many, many Dominicans dislike the noise just as much as any expat does.

The problem is that Dominicans can never say a word directly to people who bother them. They can complain about the noisy neighbor behind his back, but when they meet him accidentally in the parking lot, they will say "Oh, mi amigo, como estas, mucho tiempo, todo bien, Gracias a Dios, blah blah blah" but they will never tell him right in his face about his loud music. But they will continue to complain behind his back.

And that's why people who love to do whatever they want, continue to do whatever they want and bother other people. Because people who don't like the noise here are minority, and what can they do, whom they can address their complaints to? Only to Government or Jesus. But Government is busy with stealing money or wasting money for dumb projects, and Jesus is probably busy with other things too.

And when another politician, Faride or whoever else, starts to talk that bullshIt about 50 divisions across the country... who are those divisions made of? The same Dominicans, come to a home of any of those 'enforcers' and there's 99% chance that you will hear the same loud noise blasting from his crappy speakers. They can play that 'operativo' for a few days, like children play in their playground, like today we play the game 'police officers enforcing anti-noise laws', then in a week they all get tired of that, everybody comes home and turn their own loud noise as loud as possible, and every 'operativo', 'operacion', 'patrullaje mixto' or whatever else ends up the same way in one or two weeks. The same like how many times they prohibited windshield washers on intersections? And they are still there.

To change something here, you need to import the whole police force and their chief from some normal country, and change the 'culture' that at this point is just the lack of culture. Maybe in next 100 years something changes for real in DR, but I doubt it.
