The National Statistics Office (ONE) announced it is extending the poll-taking phase for the 2022 National Population and Housing Census for another week. The deadline was 23 November. The poll-taking can now continue through 30 November 2022, if necessary.
The census got off to a slow start, with the electronic devices allocated to poll takers in many municipalities nationwide, including Greater Santo Domingo, not synchronizing with the databases.
ONE says that the causes for delays were resolved. In some municipalities that got an early start, the poll-taking phase is closing.
ONE says that overall the census has been very well received by citizens, who have welcomed the census takers with the kindness and hospitality that characterizes Dominicans. The data collection effort will enable the country to have a more robust and reliable statistical system.
