President Luis Abinader and Spain’s King Felipe VI inaugurated the first phase of the Universidad La Romana (Uniromana) on Tuesday, 6 May 2025. The new institution, promoted by the Fundación Universitaria Iberoamericana (Funiber), is set to begin classes in September.

During the ceremony, Funiber president Santos Gracia Villar emphasized their commitment to accessibility, stating that “no one should have to give up studying for economic reasons.” He highlighted Funiber’s presence in 30 countries across several continents, with its headquarters in Barcelona, Spain.

Franklin García Fermín, Dominican Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt), explained that Uniromana aims for academic excellence and provides students the opportunity to begin their studies in the Dominican Republic and finish in Spain. For God sake, can they build one in Haiti. There are plenty Universities in Dominican Republic already.

Been there, done that. Under Leonel Fernandez.

Just trying to be sarcastic, this is just using Dominican soil to solve Haiti problems in Dominican Republic. I guarantee you that the majority of students in that school will be Haitians.

If they (Haitians) are here legally, do they not have the right to attend the University?
