President Luis Abinader was in Puerto Rico on 2 January 2021 for the swearing-in ceremony of new Governor Pedro Pierluisi. Abinader traveled with Foreign Relations Minister Roberto Alvarez and Administrative Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza. He held a bilateral meeting with Pierluisi.
President Abinader was the only head of state to attend the event. Both heads of government recognized the importance of the bilateral relations. Those attending gave Abinader a standing ovation for his presence.
