Punta Cana. The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, pondered today that July expects to end with the arrival of more than 500 thousand tourists, while last month the country received more than 470 thousand, “this being the best month in recent years.”
“These figures “point to a true and frank restoration of tourism by the end of the year, since reservations for the end of the year exceed the figures of 2018,” the president stressed.

Magically reopening Altagracia/PC fully from CV19 restrictions will likely aid those numbers in time.

Does it bother you that DR tourism has rebounded to heights even before the Pandemic? Is that a bad thing for the Dominican Republic in your eyes????????????

And the hotels in PC have never had any Govt. restrictions since this thing started other than the street curfew. Which meant zero since guests guests go on tours in the daytime anyway.

It is a great thing for the Dominican Republic! Where did I ever state to the contrary.? For sure the hotels were off limits to any curfews. I have stated numerous times that Job 1 is to get Punta Cana AI tourism back. That is where Abinader has had his focus since taking office and that is working. He and his buddies have real interests there. And now they are using Magical Numbers to reopen fully in Altagracia/PC., or using FM which is what we used to call such made up government stats.

I am all for reopening everything right now and letting the chips fall where they may regardless of the percent vaccinated anywhere. People that wanted vaccines have had plenty of time to get them. Where I am, there are NO lines for even Pfizer shots. Come on and get one. Or don't.. Up to you. Just how did those vaccine percentage rates get to 70% with almost nobody getting one any more? Ah. FM...

That said, look what happened to the fully vaccinated politicians from Texas who flew on a private plane to meet with Kamala Harris so they could avoid voting in their home state. Many lost their sense of smell and tested positive. NOTE: They didn't have SI No Vac, but I respect their ability to exercise their freedom of choice not to wear masks on the plane.

And in the UK 40% of those in hospital NOW for CV19 were FULLY VACCINATED. And they didn't have Si No Vac neither.

Did I mention that CV19 is here, there, and everywhere to stay?

According to whom?

Tourist numbers are down, revenue is down, occupancy is down from pre-pandemic numbers.

Actually the Ministry of Tourism restricted hotel capacity to 80%.

Banco Central is the government source for tourism numbers. The numbers are indeed improving.
500K tourists a month is good. People have pent up "vacation rage" at the moment and the DR is seeing numbers go up.

You be the judge on the 500K monthly number predicted and compare that to previous years here:

Banco Central is very good, but they do lag behind on reservations made at hotels. Hotels now have reported more reservations at this time than 2 years ago when the pandemic started. And that is a welcome sign..............

Sure thing;

Your statement from above......................"DR tourism has rebounded to heights even before the Pandemic"?

Tell that to the Banco Central.

The DR will be lucky to hit 3.5 million tourists for 2021.

And the pre-pandemic numbers............6.5 million in 2019.

As to your other statement........."And the hotels in PC have never had any Govt. restrictions since this thing started other than the street curfew."

"The absence of such visitors has implications for the level of employment in the tourism sector, which has been hit hardest by the pandemic. Moreover, as the activity is subject to sanitary protocols dictated by the Ministry of Tourism – which only now allows the occupation of 80% of the facilities – this means that not all their employees have returned to the hotels.

Next you will be posting figures that 90+ % of the residents of Altagracia are vaccinated...............oh wait, you already did that................and almost no one bought that ridiculous statement.

Carry on.

500,00-/month is 6,000,000/yr

Winter season should be stronger..... more global tourists should arrive
Nothing but up from here is what I see.

As to 'lucky to hit 3,500,000 this year'
We need to take into account it is an abbreviated season.... if the last 6 mos generate that
You can do the math for the annual

1.8 million tourists through June 2021. The last strong month is July...........then the swoon begins until November/December.

The numbers will be much closer to 3.5 million than they will to the 6.5 million for 2019.

And not to forget 2019 was a down year for tourist arrivals. Until 2019 there had been a steady advance yoy.

Bottom line......................compared to 2018 or 2019...................the end result will not be "DR tourism has rebounded to heights even before the Pandemic."

DR tourism will not likely surpass 2018 tourist arrivals until 2023.

From the above source:
The president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism(Asonahores), Rafael Blanco Tejera, said that “for us it is essential that Canada and Europe open because the United States, after a certain point, there is no way for it to continue growing.”

Moreover, as the activity is subject to sanitary protocols dictated by the Ministry of Tourism – which only now allows the occupation of 80% of the facilities – this means that not all their employees have returned to the hotels.

In 2019, Canada and Europe accounted for 41% of foreign visits to the Dominican Republic, according to official data.

In the first half of this year 2021, Canadian and European tourists did not account for even 16% of arrivals to the country.

CAN the EU and their airlines have severely restricted travel.
In the EU covid with Delta variants is increasing again.
If covid levels raise too much of a concern, those governments will place further travel restrictions.
The main concern is what will happen with covid in Fall and Winter.

Heard immunity is still far off.
So far governments are trying to control the spread of covid by vaccinations, which of course depend on citizens participation.
Hospital staff and emergency services are already experiencing burn out, because of covid.
Other emergency care is also being affected.

Tax revenues from tourism are very important to the DR.
Tourism is also important for employment.
If covid surges too much in the DR, tourism will lose even more.

Canada at the moment is flying to PUJ again, that's where the volume and money is.
Limited EU flights are also arriving.
The winter season depends on control of covid.

I am laughing at a guy that lives 6 hours away and has not spent one minute in Punta Cana since the pandemic, and likely never set foot in PC mouthing off about what is going on here. And the other genius living in Mass. US knows even less.........................

Take a ride to the airport. Let us know where the people on the 50 plus packed flights are going when they land. The airport is so busy they had to open Terminal B again........................
