Possible, many PRM voters give their vote to omar, Moreno is not accepted by all. Faride will become a good position now in the new government, she didn't leave the Senate for nothing...
Someone conspiracy inclined might suggest Faride stepped aside so Omar could get elected with Moreno the fall guy. Omar will be a high profile politician and definitely a presidential candidate later. He already has a large following of supporters. Some friends of mine in Santo Domingo were only talking about him.

Yet rumor has it (according to Julio Hazim) that Abinader was displeased with something Faride had said, and asked her not to run.

She says the president told her she's bigger than a Senate seat, and destined for something greater.

You gotta be joking. ¿En serio?

She's a well-known PRM leader... a former member of the lower chamber of Congress, and current Senator for the DN.
President Abinader asked her not to run for reelection, and allow Moreno to compete for the slot. However, he lost to Omar.

Had the PRM lent their support to Faride, she would've kept her seat.
Abinader has plans for her in the new administration...

I remember reading here on DR1, during earlier elections, that sometimes the recipient of the thousand pesos is required to hand over his cédula. This prevents him from voting for the "wrong" candidate.
If you hand over your cedula, you will not be voting. The officials take your cedula when you enter the voting area and return it to you when you are done. When you vote you mark the paper in private and fold it over so no one can see who you voted for. No way that could work for being sure you voted for who you were paid to vote for.

Not joking at all. No idea who she is. Never once heard of her.

For the past couple of months the government has been offering free duplicate cedulas. I presume several who sold theirs had the backup in their pocket.
