..."On August 30, a broad coalition of Haitian lawmakers and civil society groups signed the Montana Accord, a political agreement that would put in place a two-year transitional government.
The agreement includes naming a transitional president and prime minister, as well as establishing a transitional council tasked with rebuilding state institutions. Some 418 civil society organisations, 105 popular organisations, 85 political parties and groups, and 313 individuals have signed on to the document.

But the pact is not without its challenges, as it specifically excludes sectors with ties to the governing party that supports Henry, as well as those with clear ties to criminal gangs.

What has Henry said about the Accord?

Henry opposes the agreement and has advanced his own political accord that would allow him to continue to serve as prime minister without a president until the next elections are held.
In a statement published on social media on Monday, Henry said that he is open to dialogue with supporters of the Montana Accord, as well as other initiatives. He also said that “very soon” Haiti would have a “credible” provisional electoral council."...

A few notes

AlJazzera is a government funded news source from Qatar. One of their reporters was turned away from the US Embassy in Haiti, even though she was American (I was welcomed and able to sit down with representatives for almost an hour)

I have found their reporting on Haiti to be accurate and insightful- FAR more informative than even the Miami Herald here which has the best news on Haiti here in the USA... CERTAINLY more insightful and informative in the NYT.

Brian Concannon, quoted in the article, was the personal lawyer for Aristide. But the Bureau of lawyers that he continues to run in Haiti has done a lot of work on behalf of those considered political prisoners.

The Montana Accord has not been published in English - as far as I can find - https://crshc.ht/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2021/09/accord-crshcht.pdf

..."The suspect, Rodolphe Jaar, a Haitian businessman and former drug trafficker, admitted to providing weapons and logistical support for the plot, according to court documents unsealed during his hearing on Thursday.
The United States is increasingly assuming a leading role in investigating the president’s death, as questions mount over the Haitian authorities’ ability and willingness to get to the bottom of the crime.
Mr. Jaar, 49, was taken into U.S. custody on Wednesday following six months on the run. He agreed to come to the United States voluntarily after being detained in the Dominican Republic earlier this month, according to the prosecutors."...

And - HERE -- we have the link to the sitting Prime Minister - Ariel Henry

..."But new evidence suggests that Mr. Henry maintained communications with a prime suspect in the case — and that the two stayed in close contact even after the murder."....

which confirms all the rumors that this was planned INSIDE the PHTK - Jovenel's political party

The case of the assassination of the president of Haiti , Jovenel Möise , which occurred in 2021 at his residence in Port-au-Prince (Haiti), and for which 17 former Colombian soldiers were arrested, returns to the public eye. This time, after it became known that the retired captain (r) Germán Rivera, accused of being the leader of the captured mercenaries, would plead guilty to the facts before the courts of the United States.
This was revealed by a report published by The New York Times, in which a spokesman for the federal prosecutor's office in the southern district of Florida assured that the Colombian ex-military officer would change his plea of innocence to agree to four counts of conspiracy to kidnap and kill President Jovenel Möise on July 7, 2021.

According to the spokesman quoted by the American newspaper, the hearing in which Rivera would agree to the charges would take place on Thursday.
I am writing to notify you that Mr. Germán Rivera has decided to plead guilty.
Sarah Schall, spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office, in a note to The New York Times.
According to the publication in the US newspaper, the former Colombian military officer would also be willing to cooperate with prosecutors and testify against the others involved in the assassination. “He knows everything, he can break down how it all started. Who was in the meetings, how it was organized, and who gave the orders,” said William Acosta, a New York criminal defense investigator.
The retired colonel was extradited to Miami (United States) from Port-au-Prince (Haiti) on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. To appear before a US justice for his participation in the assassination of young Möise, the United States Department of Justice reported Joined.

The plan to assassinate the president of Haiti

US justice investigations suggest that Rivera recruited 20 Colombian mercenaries in May 2021. To whom he delivered weapons and assault equipment to end the life of President Jovenel Möise, and his wife Martine Moïse. Assuring that it was an operation backed by the CIA and that they would receive judicial immunity.
One complaint charges them with conspiring to commit murder or kidnapping outside the United States and providing material support and resources resulting in death, and conspiring to do so knowing or intending that such support and resources would be used to prepare or carry out out the conspiracy to kill or kidnap.
United States Department of Justice in a statement published at the end of January 2023.
The United States Department of Justice reported in the same document that along with Rivera, Haitian-American citizens James Solages, 37, and Joseph Vincent, 57, were also extradited to Miami from Haiti for questioning over the assassination of President Jovenel Möise. .
It is alleged that on July 6, 2021, Solages, Vincent, Rivera, and others gathered at a house near the residence of President Moise, where firearms and equipment were distributed. Solages announced that the mission was to kill President Moise. On July 7, 2021, several people arrived in front of President Moise's residence, some of whom were wearing ballistic vests. They entered the president's house and killed him, according to the complaints.
Statement shared by the US authorities.
Once the assassination occurred the Colombian ex-soldiers were captured. They assured that they were deceived and that they had been hired for protection and security issues in Haiti.
Regarding the assassination, Noticias Caracol revealed at the time exclusive statements delivered by Jhonatan Rivera, brother of the retired captain Germán Rivera. In July 2021 to the Colombian authorities, in which he assured that although the ex-military man is one of the key pieces in the case. He is not the mastermind.

We have the second in command, Jovenel is knocked down and the prime minister remains, and they don't even have to make an escape plan because the prime minister was going to protect them. And instead of protecting them, he betrayed them, set a trap for them and within half an hour he had already said that they were Colombians, without any investigation and without anything.
Statements obtained by the Bogotá newscast.
According to the report published by The New York Times, the retired captain (r) Germán Rivera would face life imprisonment in the United States for the charges of kidnapping and homicide, as defined in the hearing against him that was held. I would advance this September 7, 2023.

Methinks his helping to kill a world leader trumps his main occupation. N

And boy, putting him and a couple dozen other people in jail in the US, being paid for by US citizens for life, for that crime will really fix the situation in Haiti right up. Seems fair.

Next time people might re-think about getting the guns from the USA.
