Considering how extensive Presidente advertises in the DR, didn't they advertised in the US?

Why the failures outside of Dominican neighborhoods?

They need to advertise. I know that when a company is successful they feel as if they own the world, but the world still turns ON ITS OWN AXIS.

Presidente needs more advertisement to spike curiousity in the Americans to go out and try it. After all, I have seen tons of adds for the new Mexican beer branded XX (dos X).

It is the most widely known, and sold, Mexican beer in the USA, well, at least in California. It has a market already among anglos and others. Perhaps they are doing the same with Dos X. I never even knew there was a Presidente beer in DR until I read it here. Well, I don't drink beer or any other alcoholic beverages. Before, if I opened a beer, it had to be Heineken. Now I don't drink at all.

Presidente beer in the U.S. has less alcohol content than the normal Presidente beer sold in the D.R. In the D.R. it has 6% alcohol, I am not sure of the alcohol content of the Presidente beer sold in the U.S. but I know there is a law in the U.S. regarding alcohol content in beers sold there. Maybe someone in the U.S. can check the alcohol content there and confirm this. They have many restrictive laws in the U.S. on alcohol content and bottling of beer to protect the U.S. distillers.

I would not be surprised if that turns out to be the reason for the differences.

After all, the US gov. laws tend to make some healthy foods less healthy with their laws. For example, most beverages (Juices, Milk, etc) need to be pateurized prior to being sold. Pasteurization is a fancy word for Boiling, which is done to kill all possible bacteria that might grow. However, in the process many vitamins and nutrients decompose and dissolve, giving you orange juice or milk that is not as rich in nutrients compared to an actual orange juice squeezed from an orange on the spot!

For that reason, its better to have a juicer which allows for a person to throw in an entire fruit or veggies with all of their nutrients, giving you fresh, healthy, and authentic juice.

I know the juice part has NOTHING to do with beer, but that is to show how laws in the US could cause certain products to decrease in quality. I'm not sure if the beer is subjected to such laws, but I won't be surprised.

BTW, its not a real bad thing to pasteurize, it's just that the food product won't be as rich in nutrients and vitamins as it otherwise would have.

Presidente

Presidente in the US can only be 3.2% alcohol. That's why it's not as potent as that bought in the DR. Nevertheless, it is available in Atlanta and I buy it all the time, by the case.

Why do you say that? Do you live in Utah?

Colt 45 is much higher, as are all standard US beers, most in the 3.6-4.0 range by weight, 4-5% by volume

In any case don't go looking for Presidente beer in the US and think its going to be the same as the one you get in DR, You will be in for a big let down. :(
Badpiece

I agree. It just doesn't taste the same & I don't think the difference in the alcohol content is the reason.

is this Presidente!??..or just what they want us to believe?...

SKY beat me to the punch regarding Presidente brew. I highly agree with Badpiece33 though. Every time I sip like 6 Imported Presidentes I get an upset stomach the next day. I usually drink it mixed with Clamato to cover up the unPresidente taste but I read someone's post where they say that the imported Presidentes come from Mexico. Sooo, could that be the source of my post-Presidente manifest?...A close inspection of the box and bottle label are in the agenda, as well as further extensive tests drinking Imported Presidentes and eating different oderbs[spelling?]...

I just came back from St. Martin where Presidente beer is everywhere. The writing is in English and it claims to have been brewed in the DR, It is imported from a co. in Reston VA (U.S.), but it does not taste as good

So many misconceptions in only one thread

1. Presidente is imported by a SAB-Miller captive (Martlet) importation firm in Virginia. SAB-Miller is now promoting Presidente as its mid-level import champion to battle Anheiser Bush's Corona brand. If your beer distributor doesn't have it, ask him/her to speak with his/her SAB-Miller rep.

2. Corona is, by far, the best selling Mexican beer in the US. It outsells its closest competitor (Tecate) by 7:1. It is also the #7 largest selling beer in the US overall and the most popular 12-pack in the country. I have never even heard of a "Presidente" beer from Mexico. Please provide any evidence at all (a website or news reference).

3. Bohemia is brewed by the same company that makes Presidente - the Cervezeria Nacional - which is a joint venture of SAB-Miller and the Dominican tobacco giant E. Leon Jimenez. Bohemia is their "budget" beer - considered inferior to Presidente (and, in my opinion, completely tasteless) - sort of what Bush is to Michelob. Sounds like there must be some drunk germans floating around pretending to be brewmasters.

4. The Presidente sold in the US is brewed and bottled in the DR and is identical to the product sold for DR domestic conception (including in alchohol content). It is commonly reported that Presidente in the US tastes different. After many, many, threads on this topic, this can probably best be attributed to shelf-life and temparature changes involved in transit. In other words, Presidente does not travel well. (Some also claim that that the experience of drinking it under a palm tree surrounded by beautiful babes compared to drinking it while shoveling smoot-blackened snow in Wisconsin affects the drinking impression.) I can personally report that most (but not all) of the Presidentes that I have purchased in high turnover locations in Washington Heights have tasted the same as that consumed by me in massive quantities in the DR.

El Presidente beer

Could anyone tell me what this beer tastes like? Say compared to a strong Canadian beer which i'm used to?
Also, is this the beer that they serve on most AI resorts?

Hi Hockeyman,

Greetings from Nova Scotia.

Most beer drinkers like Presidente (drop the El please) and say it compares favourably with most good pilsners. It is the most commonly available beer at AI's BUT it is draught and plastic glasses, so there is no concern about bottles and bare feet, pools, etc., etc.

Take an insulated thermal mug (I love getting my 32 oz. Cuba Libres) and it will stay cold long after you get back to the pool. As far as % alcohol, not being a beer drinker (rum is my poison), I would "guess" at between 5% & 6%.

Will they just fill up a thermal mug from home with beer, without any questions or do you have to use the cup supplied?
