Pre School

Looking for a "good" pre-school for a 3 and a half year old to start in September.

Preferably just for pre-school kids

Spanish or English is not that important.

In Puerto Plata

Thanks

Hi all,
So far I am aware of 2 international schools in Punta Cana: Cap Cana Heritage School and CEPCA (Centro Educativo Punta Cana). Would anybody know how they compare to each other? (Are they truly bilingual, are they accredited, what are the fees etc.) Are there maybe other international schools in Punta Cana that I am not yet aware of?
Thanks in advance!

Question

Alic New World School, Puerto Plata.
It has Grades Pre-K through Grade 12.
Billingual school, not all teachers are educated, certified teachers though ( usually the foreigners are not, and the local teachers are )
French lessons offered.
Cost around 2.500 RDS /month, excl. books, uniforms, meals, inscription.

Hi there,
Would you happen to know the e-mail or website for this school. I would like to contact the administrators as I am trying to apply for a teaching position in Puerto Plata. Thank you

i would take a private teacher for such.
they give the classes at your home and on such private classes without a big crowd of children around the language skills improve quick in a short time period.
i have here at my house a retired Cuban teacher who comes 3 days a week for 1 hour to teach my wife english.
if you are located here in my area Bavaro/Punta Cana just let me know, so i can send you his phone number to get in touch with him.

New School Highly Recommended By Me

For people looking for an EXCELLENT bilingual school that is affordable, I recommend Brilliant Minds School, which is on Autopista San Isidro near the turn off for San Vicente De Paul in Santo Domingo East. My daughter is in 5th grade and goes there. Why do I recommend it, even though it is only 2 years old?

1. They give classes from 7:45-2:00 Mon-Fri. My daughter gets 2-3 hours of math 3 times a week. The teached speaks better than most for English. The director speaks perfect English, and shows genuine concern for the kids in her school.

2. This school is receiving a grant from KIPP, the knowledge is power program in NY. They have a computer lab, brand new, science lab, full size swimming pool, music program, and homework lab after school. This is the only school for under RD$ 5,000.0 pesos per month that DOESN'T CHARGE for after school programs, where as most schools charge double, they also have competetive after school sports and a band and cheerleading, volleyball, and basketball, and they take the kids to other schools by bus (no extra charge) to compete. Please note they do charge for the homework classes after school and RD$ 100.00 pesos if your child eats their lunch, which is healthy and well balanced.

3. I was in the same situation, watching my daughter's education until this year go down the tubes, but I have been extremely impressed at her turn around in this school, and while it isn't the states as far as educational standards, it is the only step in the right direction that I could afford.

Best of luck to you, and I hope this helps.;)

brilliant minds school

contact number for brilliant minds? This is a great post, as the rest of the recommendations for st domingo do not take St Dom Este into account but that is where the growing new middle class are located. Good post.

I live here in Santo Domingo Este as well and have heard very similar stories from friends who have children in Brilliant Minds. Sounds like a great place...very easy access off of Las Americas, and right there in Alma Rosa.

well I visited Brilliant minds and liked it very much but i didnt like the price. The total comes to good bit more than 5000 a month. There are all kinds of hidden costs and if your child stays after hours they charge another 28000RD. That brings the total costs very close to what the premium colegios charge on the other side of the river. I was disappointed to say the least, even though I did like the place. There is a Montessori in La Isabelita that I am going to check out, and there is also The Cathedral School in Ens. Ozama which is probably just as expensive. Their website in English is poorly written and doesnt inspire confidence, but I have friends whose kids are enrolled there and they are content.

I was quoted 98kRD for the school year, which includes regular courses, music courses, books, lunch and after hours until 5pm.

It doesn't seem like the charges are hidden, just extra.

So $2700 per year, or $225 per month if you take the whole package. Not a bad price to pay if your children are getting a good education. Some people spead that much or more. on booze each month.

Santiago Christian School; located in Santiago; is accredited by SACS. It is a k-12 school with around 550 students. It has been around for about 50 years and has an excellent reputation. School is taught in English with most teachers North-American trained and certified.

The middle/upper-middle range bilingual schools on the west side are at least twice as expensive.

Bilingual school in Santiago

I looked through this whole thread and could not see the name of the school that I visited yesterday, which exact name I forgot (yes I know zzzzzz). It was close to Hache...going into the center of Santiago.

Inscription was 19000, 5000 pesos a month. English the teaching language. The name "host something" Hmmm anybody that knows which school I am talking about and have any experience of it?

I was impressed with the school and the presentation of the Director.
