I appreciate your answer. It is easier to understand your viewpoints when we know what you compare with/likes to do.
I strongly believe it matters what you like. Different people appreciates different things. For myself I do not like too big cities when I go on vacation (Rio being the exception). I love Sosua beach with its unique setting I have not seen elsewhere. I have met a few very interesting & nice people that I like to have a conversation with. I like the platinum gym to which I go almost daily when I am in town to teach the Dominicans a lesson in how you handle a racket. I like the restaurants despite the fact it was even better in the past.
And the Sosua night scene even though it is not pretty does not affect me at all. Would I like it to be a bit different.. ? Sure, but I do not care too much. I go to Puerto Plata or Cabarete when I want to go out.
I have not been to JD so I do not know if I would like it better or not but probably not as I think yours and mine preferences are different.

Funny...I was going to post how there are so few girls on the beach these days. I love the bars on Sosua beach...so relaxing and no one bothers you.

It's about "prostitution affects TOURISM in Sosua" and not about "prostitution affects EXPAT in Sosua".
After a while an EXPACT may not care anymore about prostitution because started to get used to ,part of the scenery..
Understand may evolve or not....
However ,for many tourists coming here for one or 2 weeks ,it's a disaster image to have a city center like this...

I thought for sure that the guy that ran it had the "fix" in. He was open for business long after Passions and others were closed down.
Dominican do go to Sosua beach, bring their own food and drink, and avoid the city like the plague.
Sosua and Boca Chica , according to Dominicans, are not what they want the DR to be known for, if that is your point then I agree. People that argue that Dominicans go to Sosua beach on weekends miss the point that they do not go out in the city of Sosua, but rather from the bus to the beach and back to the bus home.
"Prostitution affects tourism in Sosua"... Yes it does, it brings in the tourists that otherwise wouldn't come, and it's not keeping any tourists away. Rich Capitalenos go to Bavaro, Juan Dolio, Samana, LT, or have vacation homes in Metro. Rich Santiagueros go to Jarabacoa, Confresi, Playa Dorada, or have condos in Sosua Ocean Village or Cabarete. Get rid of the putas they still wouldn't come to Sosua because Sosua has nothing special to offer. Those with less cualto already come to Sosua (or BC) because they can't afford AIs.
If Illana wants to improve Sosua start with putting a few garbage cans on the streets so I'm not forced to throw garbage on the street like a chopo
You are missing the point that the government wants the hookers gone. They will do it the beast way they can, which of course is unlikely to be a good way since prohibition never works. The government really does not care at all about people that like hookers. They would prefer the sex tourists go elsewhere.
