My opinion. I do feel bad for the children. Wouldn't it be the fault of the parents originally from Haiti? They knew the laws and they gave their children the problems and gave them the title of non-people. There should be a way for children that were born and grew up in DR to get residency and citizenship, an easy process. But, the reality is that the parents knew what they were doing to their children. DR has to stop Haitians from coming here and birthing babies just to get citizenship here.
Yes, it's the parents' fault but it's not the offsprings'. They are the ones who suffer.

As pointed out, They are Haitians. The DR government regularization program for them is long over.
I missed where their citizenship was pointed out and didn't know that. However, it doesn't change that when they get to Haiti they have no support if they don't know anyone and just have to live as best they can in the streets.

The goverment regularization programme was a lottery with some people getting it and others, who spent just as much time and money getting all the relevant documentation together failing and remaining illegal.

It is the position of the DR government and its people that this is not their problem.

Well, it is their problem because they deport Haitians and they keep coming back. So that part of it is a big problem.

Ancient Order is indeed having their intended effect.
Mata Mosquito has been completely remodeled as a result of their last march.

My acquaintance who was working with the authorities at Mata Mosquito says that the real reason for the destruction is that somebody powerful wants to build a hotel there. I have no idea if that's true.

Could be, but that would be a lousy location for a hotel.

I guess I missed it all. I didn't get down there till a bit after 2 and there was nothing going on except one abuela in a DR hat and shirt with a DR flag. I walked up to the park from El Conde so I would be just another tourist. There were barracades that I and others easily crossed along the perimeter of the park. The park gate was closed and guarded. But again, nothing really to see.

Along the perimeter fence there were a whole bunch of large posters detailing the April revolution of 65. I took a couple pics just to get the website so I can read about them tonight.

Also, many businesses on El Conde were closed, probably at least 50% I thought that surprising. I'm wondering if some of the owners anticipated an uprising of sorts.

Finally, as usual I parked at Parque Enriquillo and walked down. No Haitians there to speak of, same as last Sunday. Minimal police presence. I'm wondering if they got rid of most of them.

If you're talking about me, you are right that I have never seen the location. Just passing on what I was told by someone who was there.

The DR does not have Jus Soli. Being born here is not a way to get citizenship if your parents are illegal aliens.

If you had a $100 for every pregnant Dominican woman that traveled to the US to give birth and get US Citizenship for the baby you could go to the best AI in Punta Cana whenever you wanted to. If you ever did anyway............

Since the DR government obviously has a problem controlling the flow of illegals, it needs to do similar things to select neighborhoods where illegal immigrants from Haiti are the majority in different parts of the DR. Do this with no warning prior that a migration raid will be done followed by demolition of illegal structures. Many “Little Haiti“ areas throughout the DR would see a decrease in population as many choose to go back to Haiti before the authorities appear there to do the same.

Most likely many more would self-deport than de deported by Migración. It also stops making sense returning to the DR if likelihood is high wherever they settle will eventually be destroyed.

Also, by closing the “Dominican escape route” to Haitians, it will inevitably increase the pressure in Haiti itself to solve many of its problems.

Something tells me this may be about to change.

In a special session held in the province of Espaillat, the Dominican Republic Senate approved key legislation and resolutions aimed at strengthening anti-trafficking laws and commemorating a significant moment in national history. The session marked the first reading of a bill amending Law 137-03 on migrant smuggling and human trafficking, which introduces stricter prison sentences—15 to 20 years for smuggling and 20 to 25 years for trafficking. It also adds harsher penalties for crimes involving public officials and clarifies the distinction between smuggling and trafficking by omission.

The special session they are talking about took place today in Moca.
