The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) criticized the method the National Health Service (SNS) is using to verify health care employment. The Controller General’s Office is leading the audit on government employees nationwide and is requiring that employees personally pick up a physical check. In the past, health care workers have been paid by bank transfer. The controller measures seek to verify the person is employed, after claims that transfers were going to people who were abroad or not the ones named in the payroll.
On day one, health personnel were required to queue up for long hours at the SNS for the metropolitan region of Santo Domingo. On day two, health care workers were sent to the volleyball pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. At the pavilion, thousands of health care workers demanded the air conditioner be turned on.
