Hundreds of thousands of Dominicans used the Altagracia Day and Duarte Day long weekend to exchange lockdown in cities for vacation time in resorts, tourist towns and countryside. The president of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD), Dr. Waldo Ariel Suero warns that the country could see another spike in Covid-19 cases due to the gatherings of friends and family for the January holidays. Dr. Suero is also against the recent relaxing of mobility in the Dominican Republic.

The president of the Society of Infectology, Rita Rojas, also warned that the measures announced for the next two weeks that allow for restaurants and gyms to open and reduce curfew hours could lead to the collapse of the medical capacity to deal with the disease. Reopening finds businesses bankrupt due to pandemic measures.
Santiago.- The long time without operating during the pandemic led to some gyms and other businesses going bankrupt, others reopened but with fewer staff and few clients.

One of the establishments that had to close its doors when it could not survive is the Fit Factory gym located at the entrance of Cerros de Gurabo on 4th street.

The owners of the establishment were among those who on several occasions marched to demand the reopening, applying the protocol measures established by the Public Health authorities.

In the case of Eco Fitnes, a business dedicated to the sale of exercise machines and that operated in the same building as Fit Factory, it reopened but its executives acknowledge a decrease in sales.

While the Smart Fit, which is part of the Bravo supermarket chain, reopened although with fewer customers.

At the time when the Covid 19 pandemic registered its highest number of infections, this gym was forced to close on more than one occasion, due to the measures provided by Public health.

Of the four thousand members they had, it has now been reduced significantly.

The protocol established by Public Health for gyms, and sports clubs establishes keeping distance, fewer members in the facilities and the mandatory use of masks.

Informal business owners such as fast food, fried foods, hot dogs, which have been on the verge of closure and others that have gone bankrupt, ask to be taken into account by the central government.

The resolution issued by Decree 37-21 provides that people can use open spaces in the open air, such as parks and boardwalks, for activities that do not involve crowding, in strict compliance with current health protocols.

Likewise, it is ordered that the places of consumption of food and beverages can accept users up to 60 percent of their capacity, complying with the sanitary measures and without exceeding six people per table in the places that apply.

A healthy business owner is stressed out over the government actions that close their business.
Stress is bad for the health of people.
Those people are the public.
So is the government helping people or hurting them ❓
Why is the choice to sacrifice the financial or mental health of some❓

Informal business owners such as fast food, fried foods, hot dogs, are the ones that have been doing sufficiently well giving the pandemics. After the big supermarkets, pharmacies, hardware stores, the small fast food, fried food, food truck shops are the ones who were doing very well (especially in smaller towns). Actually, one of the few ways to make money in a startup during the pandemics was fast food. Smaller towns have advantage you can do social media campaign relatively inexpensively and get the necessary visibility quite fast. And if you have good quality and tasty food and reasonable pricing, success in fast food busienss during pandemics was almost guaranteed.

I would add, that these small food operators were/are usually grab & go operations, so the only thing was to change business model from come, order, wait, take out, eat at home, was to order by whatsapp/PedidosYa/etc., wait for delivery, eat at home. At most smaller cities grab & go was/is very popular (instead of eat in, even in lounge plastic chairs in front of the food truck which may have been case for SD/ST) - distances are smaller, you grab the food, hop on the motorcysle or scooter, or car, and you are home in less than 5 minutes. Food still hot and tasty.

At most smaller cities grab & go was/is very popular (instead of eat in, even in lounge plastic chairs in front of the food truck which may have been case for SD/ST) - distances are smaller, you grab the food, hop on the motorcysle or scooter, or car, and you are home in less than 5 minutes. Food still hot and tasty.

So now basically instead of going to get the food to eat at home, people just order online and wait for food to come, and they still eat at home.

Smaller town (basically everywhere with the exception of SD and ST) food business has been booming ever since the pandemics started and food stores were allowed to open up for take out / delivery, and moreso after extening their operating hours till 11 pm for deliveries.

I agree but unfortunately I think this location was very dependent on the university crowd and with both Universidad Autónoma De Santo Domingo being closed along with the night school offering English classes directly across the street, according to the info I was given by a former employee this afternoon, the lack of steady customers finally took its toll.
However t's not the end of the (pizza) world just yet as their location across from the Monument on Del Sol is alive and doing quite well.

Nope nor would I in the future as I prefer to take in as much oxygen as possible during a 45 minute work out.
