The arch-rivals Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic filled the loanDepot ballpark in Miami. Both teams were there with heart and soul, and the fans, too.

MLB in its report on the game, stated: “Wednesday’s game between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico lived up to its enormous hype. The level of play on the field was unrivaled. It seems impossible to find another baseball game that had more passion and louder decibel levels coming from the 36,025 fans in the stands.”

Someone had to win and it was Puerto Rico. The game ended 5-2 in favor of Puerto Rico that now moves to the 2023 World Baseball Classic quarterfinals. The injury of Edwin Diaz, playing for Puerto Rico, and who was taken out on a wheelchair, put a damper on Puerto Rican fans’ enthusiasm for the win.

The game was already out of hand thanks to some poor DR pitching and great PR pitching but what stood out was that bonehead in-the-park homerun in the 5th inning given up by DR centerfielder, Julio Rodriguez, when he overran a bloop single - it was classic poor play, then he gave up another error immediately after as another ball went under his glove, but luckily the left fielder caught up to the ball and threw to the relay man, Marte, who made a perfect throw & they called the runner, Kike, who was trying stretch a triple - replays showed him safe, but it wasn't conclusive ? What do you think ?

Rodriguez slightly redeemed himself in the top of the 6th with a diving catch which prevented extra bases.

Bases loaded , none out, and DR scores 1. And then a leadoff double left on base. That pretty much sums up the DR loss

Except it was the PR pitchers that got them out plus a couple double plays

So,out in the first round. I heard before the beginning of the world series very often the RD team is the favorit for winning this competition.
It seems they are overrated by a lot of people, and now there are long faces....

Often the price you pay when you send an all-star team instead of a club team with a couple of pickups. The Puerto Rican closer was awesome. Got a couple of favorful calls but they couldn't hit him anyways.

Japan would be my pick then Venezuela then Puerto Rico
Some Louis Cypher dude here picked Japan BEFORE the tournament started. He even went as far as predicting Ohtani capturing the MVP award.
YEAH, see the thread about the DR having the "best team ever."
