still nothing to worry about in vicinity of the east coast,
but we may look towards a couple cloudy days, one may be a heavy downpur day.
a small disturbance ESE of puerto rico is moving quickly into our area, winds should not pass much over 20 knots as max, but rainfall may be heavy for some hours.
surrounding circumstances are completely unfavorable for development of the formation, so no worries, just await that we may not need to water the garden this weekend.
let's stay tuned,
looks like the highway get's some movement started.

wind started last night to go a bit up, since this morning the gusts are rising stronger, steady wind get's heavier.
the tropical wave 97L is moving quick over punta cana today, wind will come up more during this afternoon, it should be all over tomorrow morning.
nothing to be concerned about other than we will have a cloudy afternoon and most likely we will get a share of rain.
til now PC is still dry.
the newly appeared disturbed area over the bahamas will not have any effects on the east coast of the DR.

PC is still on the calmest summer since i am here on my 15th PC summer now.
no wind, no waves, pure sunshine like visitors like it, i even think the humidity feels less than usual during august.
august is coming to an end and we are still on the weather conditions we are used to during april/may/june.
the only negative on all is the fact that we are completely dry, mangroves dry on wide parts, plants are crying for water.
sure we do not cry out for a hurricane pouring down such for 2-3 consecutive days and nights flooding everything, but 3 nights a week a 30-40 minutes strong downpour without strong winds would be appreciated.
the weather in case of travelling to PC august 2009:
man,
just perfect.
happy sunday eve
Mike

Don't want to bother you, Mike, but can you please post an update?
My friend is arriving to PC come Sunday and weathercom now shows scattered T-storms today and all week after. Please, is there any sun between rains?

you don't bother.
i did not update here since weeks b/c we did not have any change on our PC summer weather all summer long til now.
pure sunshine, few clouds are a rarity,
we did not have not even one rainy day here at my place during the whole summer 2009, wind is zero, waves inshore and offshore are zero.
to be honest,
we wished it would rain 2-3 nights a week,
PC is bonedry and needs water.
who the heck is watching weather.com???
so your friends also watch CNN and believe what they show there?
ha ha ha
forget the weather forecasts whicvh are made for more than 2 days in advance,
b/c nobody knows about the weather in advance,
not at your home and not here in the tropics.
it is unpredictable.
happy travels

I tried to reason, pointing to the difference between the same forecast for Las Terrrenas and the actual thing I see through the window, but she is worried still.
The thing is, I was the one to recommend her the DR for her well-needed vacation, I even like insisted on it, so now I feel responcible :)

Punta Cana Nov. 7th

I am heading to Punta Cana on Saturday Nov. 7th - Nov. 14. I've been watching the weather for that week and it's looking mostly like rain. Is it going to be a wash out?

hi Cheryl,
no washout expected,
and if we would get a washout it could anyways not be predicted a week in advance, nobody knows the weather a week in advance.
don't watch those long range CNN/website etc weather forecasts, they are absolutely worth nothing.
we are now on our typical fall/winter weather in Punta Cana, Ocean on a 5-6ft, specially the mornings this week are very rought due to the tidal changes/moon phase, we have our usual 8-10 knots winds, days are mostly sunny, several nights per week we get some showers.
at this moment we do not have any bad weather front or such nearby, so no reson for the forecasters to call for rain.
daytime showers, even short ones, been during the whole year 2009 til now a very very rare thingy.
have a blast on our lovely Isle

usual for Punta Cana in case of storms is ''no issues''.
last year we had Zero effects all year long, even that the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea been quiet active and destoyeaous during summer and fall, but no effects over here.
the more accurate season's forecast from the Colorado State Univercity will come out June 6th 2010, it is in my eyes the most reliable in case of season's predictions. the dominican east coast itself is a Zero Point for storms, their occurance is very rare here.

I am planning to travel to Punta Cana for the first time May 16-21. I am really excited, however, I am worried about the weather b/c i am reading that that time period is the rainy season? Should i be concerned about this? how has the weather been recently? and ideas how it will be during the next week or so?

thanks!

sorry Dude,
we are the tropics,
a weather forecast in case of simple rain or sunshine can sure not be made for more than the next 24hrs, and even such 'long range guesses' fail often very hard.
in general like mentioned so often that it even can be find by the search button, May/June?July are the calmest time of the year for the east coast/Punta Cana, if it rains it will do so 85% during the sleeping hours, so no big bothering from there.
the sites who mention May as a rainy month do not check Punta Cana specific Data, they look just on the Islands over all monthly amount of water, and yes, May is producing a significant amount of rainfalls, but at specific locations of the Island like for example at our Los Haitises National Park, the Island's natural sweet water reservoir, but def not down here in PC.
the always present but no more than 3-5 times per year strongly affecting danger during the calm and hot sunny months is of course the forming of a Vaguada, a windfree calm waterload pouring straight down for several hours or even days, Ocean during such ocurances is a completely flat plate, temps stay hot.
but like i said, such doesn't happen every week, not even every month, and it is no big deal anyways.
welcome to DR1
and have a great time on our lovely Isle.
i personally name May/June?July the perfect months to visit Punta Cana, and that did not change in the 15 years i am living in PC now.

been hot and sunny and humid and calm again today,
we have a small portion of rain over the channel,
i guess we will see some lightning and hear some thunder before midnight, and it will refresh the air a bit, hopefully.
it will not last long,
looking forward on an other stunning sunny beach day tomorrow
cheers

my partner who lives in Punta Cana Village got strong thunder and rain for a short while, here in Cabeza de Toro it did not really start to rain, been nice to watch the lightnings over the Ocean when it approached, it was scattered over the area and been over quick, refreshed the air nicely but not long lasting, the heat came back right away.
today we are on an other pure sunny beach weather day, exactly what visitors are looking for, and we have a nice soft breeze, on the beach it feels good, when walking or sitting in the shaddow of the breeze it is very hot again.
nothing indicates any change soon, i guess it will stay that way for the weekend with a late eve or midnight shower after strong daytime heat, often together with some lightnings and thunder like last night, perfect for that beach vacation.
cheers from sunny Paradise

the dots shown by tonights Radar of San Juan/PR are nothing out of the ordinary, some areas may get a lil and short nighttime shower early morning, most will stay dry all night long.
wind is over all calm, few gusts present on the offshore Sea, should not be felt on shore. the short range outlook for the next 24hrs looks like sunny daytime beach conditions with very isolated areas to receive short early morning showers.
perfect caribbean Vaca weather
