Punta Cana Honeymoon Destination

HI All, I am planning for a honeymoon trip to Punta Cana. What are your suggestions? I am planning to visit in June. How is the weather? Any help?

Punta Cana has many choices for honeymoons. I would suggest, depending on your budget, that you go on-line and check out the many options. I'm assuming you're looking for an all inclusive. Go to trip adviser or a similar site and read reviews by those who have stayed at any properties you are interested in. This will give you a good idea of the pluses and minuses of the resort. The weather in June is hot, probably 85-90F everyday and it can also be rainy. I wouldn't let that interfere with your plans. Congratulations and good luck.

Ok. Please advise...what things are changing or have changed. I am very interested to find out. We have always wanted in the past to visit all the caribbean islands for one reason only...the beach and the beautiful ocean. Had never thought about a cultural experience. Left that for Europe.

There has been a massive surge in tourism in Santo Domingo over the last few years, and there is an ongoing programme to make the Colonial Zone more attractive to tourists, with a further US$ 90M being spent in the next couple of years. Just because you personally only want beach and all-inclusive, you should understand that other tourists do want culture, night-clubs, drinks which have at least a little alcohol in, local people not crowds of tourists on vacation.

If you look at Havana, San Juan, Cartaghena just to name a few, there are hundreds of thousands of people who like this type of city-based cultural break and this is one of the main pushes in terms of policy for tourism in Dom Rep.

...yes very nice all those new things on the malecon...until they are stolen in less than a week......

They are still all there a year later, and I am shocked at how clean they are keeping it. David Collado is running a very tight ship. All the trash that used to be on the beaches is removed daily. The Malecon is very busy early evenings and especially on Sundays. It's hard to find anywhere to park at the Plaza Juan Baron end with so many local families there. Great atmosphere.

Then you wonder why gringos are looked down on. Reminder, expats are only guests in a foreign country.

Good to see that someone understands what it takes to attract and keep visitors coming to a city in this country.

If I did a honeymoon again (one never knows..lol) in the DR, I think some of boutique type hotels in the Colonial Zone would be nice. It really does not even have to be a honeymoon, just a little romantic getaway.

I dont travel to USA, but Really? I feel safer in Santo Domingo, than being scared of mass shotting in any place of the USA. The travelers alert for Dominican Republic is the same for Spain, number 2. so dont tell me that Santo Domingo is place where no body can go. Every year Santo Domingo has arriving more and more tuorist. So as we says here, bajale algo. te pasaste.

This thread has nothing to do with the USA. Take cheap shots elsewhere.

Can you walk around Santo Domingo at night flaunting your wealth and with zero disregard for your safety? No. Sure there are some cities where you can do this elsewhere in the world, but nowhere is it the norm.

Can you visit the city, use common sense, and enjoy it safely? Absolutely. There is a high crime rate but where and when are those crimes taking place? And against whom? Be realistic, smart, and logical, there are beautiful places to see in SD.

Ok. you win I lose, no one single tourist visit Santo Domingo acording to your amazing analisys of the crime, but even like that Zona Colonial is the number one spot for Honeymoon as the report says https://www.arecoa.com/destinos/2019/10/22/top-5-destinos-dominicanos-turismo-bodas/ you can read it, if you do not speak spanish use google translator, the 2nd. one is Punta Cana.

One thing Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin have that we don't here are snow shovels for the sub zero temperatures all winter. So stay inside your unlocked doors while we are sipping a Pina Colada at the beach....................
