53-year old Raul Mondesi sentenced to six years in jail; he has already served the sentence under house arrest

As a Dodgers outfielder, Mondesi won the NL Rookie of the Year award in 1994 and played in the All-Star Game one year later. He was a regular in Major League Baseball for 13 seasons and won two Gold Gloves. He played for the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Angels and Atlanta Braves. He finished his career with an average of .273, 271 homers and 860 RBI.

And then he returned to the Dominican Republic and got involved in politics, getting first elected as a legislator in the Chamber of Deputies from 2006 to 2010. Then he was elected mayor of San Cristobal for the term 2012-2016.
