This is another way to collect your SS benefits other than Direct doposits to your bank.. It works anywhere in the World and you DO NOT have to call every six months or any other time to collect your benefits. It works well..............
The call every six months is because of this country and the amount of fraud... if they are not telling you to call them, and you live here... they will... if you dont make your call your payments will stop untill you do... and yes it works very well any where in the world...........the call every 6 month is painless and takes about 2 minutes.... I do this when I check my balance, and the card looks like any other master card.

Been using the card here for 8 years. I think I know what I am talking about............And you don't have to ever call for your balance, just go to the Direct Express website to get it............

But thinking back to when I first got it I did call and tell them I will be using it not only in the US but the DR also. Maybe you should do the same. I have never been requested to call at anytime........

Have used this card for 11 years,,, but if you get red flagged, like I did after I reported my card stolen and needed a replacement . once you are red flagged you will need to call them every 6 months, and yes you need to tell direct express to turn it on for use in the DR As I did...As I dont want my card info on my computer I find it just as easy to call for my balance... the man that stole my card was caught by the PN, as fraud prevention called me later that day and told me after they cancelled my card some body tried to use it in a medical clinic in Moca, and for what amount and at what time.... so as I was new here then I called the National Police and to my surprise they caught the guy and charged the owner of the clinic with bank card fraud for trying to use a card they knew was stolen... never even called the PN back to see what happened to the bad guys....Just figured they settled it by paying the police a propina.....But if you have 1 problem you will be red flagged and then your 6 month calls will start.................

DID anyone SSA benefits were suspended on march 3 2023 as the email claim would occcur unlesss the form it’s returned or at any point/date Were SSA benefits suspended due to the email/form NOT being returned ?

OP: None of the allegations from SSA/US EMBASSY turned out to have merit. I received my payments as expected. Nevertheless, to be safe, I did comply with the form request and used the option from mailing to SSA from the U.S. Never received a response but documented that fact with "return receipt." Are these "threats" scaremongering or what? Unforgiveable to frighten people in this way.

Hey out of curiosity did you tell them you were residing in DR on this form you talk about ? it seems according to other posts and this one as well it is strongly recommended to NEVER EVER tell the Embassy or SSA If you reside abroad ?

Not directly, but yes. For better or worse (probably worse) I signed up for the STEP (?) program which informs you of important events.

We get one of these every year. Not sure what triggers it but you must submit it. It comes with a return envelope. This is not a scam people!

from Pularvik.
we get the form every year. Our SS pensions are deposited in an account in Canada, but our mailing address is in the DR. Probably it’s the mailing address in the DR that triggered it, or maybe our account in Canada?
My husband says that they just want to be sure we are not dead.

If you even let them know you're living out of the country, you will get one of these. I've been living here 17 years - never received that notice.
I did let them know.. but no letters so far. That is why I asked what exactly triggered them.

My opinion from what o read on the web and other sources it has to be that “ STEP PROGRAM REGISTRATION ” That is suppose to only be use by the embassy and consulate to register tourist and long stays in DR in the embassy databank. However I can only assume that the STEP PROGRAM register tourist information is share to other government agencies such as SSA …, I have NO proof but I do have common sense

Hello All,

I just received a scary email to my inbox that threatens fines or imprisonment if I don't send in the form. Sounds like a perfect social engineering phishing attempt. The email is from, or purports to be from, SDOAmericans@state.gov The letter gives me a link to download a form titled SSA-7162 and says that I cannot electronically submit it, that I must mail it to an address in PA or to the U.S. Embassy in Sto. Dom. It says that SSA confirms foreign residency every two years.

I could give more information but this should be enough to answer the question, real or fake? Meanwhile I will google the form and evaluate it rather than click on the link for the form in the letter.

Needless to say, I am big time worried as the letter threatens cancellation of SSA benefits.
I get that firm every year here at my santo domingo address, fill it out and mail it back. Its to infirm irs you are still alive i think

Data bases can be used for so many things. The new E-Ticket data base for example. The US Embassy registration database for US citizens in the DR is another. What is done with such data bases depends upon the intent and competency of those managing them.

If one registered as a US citizen many years ago as to living in the DR, did that information disappear and is not used in the new SS situation?
