Aside from these figures, keep in mind the principal motor of the DR industry still is idling on 2 cylinders out of 12.

Aside from that new cruising operations to be added later on.

New hotel rooms expansions underway.

New areas to be developed underway.

The gov has a plan to switch LPG transportation and oil-charcoal power plants to CNG and LNG which are way more price stable, cheaper, cleaner and reliable sourced supplies than any other fuel.

The commercial farms and cooperatives are undertaking a pilot project to mechanize the industry.

Garbage recycling and repurposing is a new pilot project with assistance from the US, also underway.

The DR expects to rapidly exploit the Russian tourist market, as it has opened with several weekly flights in normal service to be added.
Which will also open direct shipping of goods via air to that market opening up with cheaper rates and more frequency for perishable and short shelf life goods.

IKEA DR had started to distribute goods directly to LA markets from the DR main warehouse. With a plan to designate a free trade zone plant for those imports/exports in the DR.

The potential of the DR started to be tapped into for good.

We have yet to tap into the Asian markets…
The African markets. Australia-New Zealand…
Most importantly, a well regulated cross border market with Haiti.

We are still in baby steps when it comes to Central and SA markets.

Maybe Pichardo has bought some very rosy new spectacles because the latest posting is laughable. Just to quickly look at it .
Cruising Operations will be added on ?? Onto what. RD has no operations but only 3 cruise ports that will be battling to reach pre covid levels. New hotel rooms barely keep up with those closed down and where are the new areas and how will they help the DR ,,just words.
The Government has no money to change over the fuel in power plants and as it has a policy of no further borrowing .coal and oil are likely to be the continued fuel. Just what is this exploitation of the Russian tourist market and the several flights a week ,presumably to Moscow ,will be passenger or cargo flights, . I simply do not believe the story about Ikea ..so the goods will come from Ikea in Scandanavia and go to the DR warehouse and then go all the way to LA,,Pull the other leg!!
The DR has not tapped into the Asian market . With what ?? What have we got here that can not be produced cheaply in Asia and the same goes for Africa. There are no flights directly to Australia now New Zealand and as the flight times are more than 3 days one can imagine the freight costs . Haiti has almost no money to buy anything and the cross border market may be important for a few traders but is pitifully small .
All of what Pichardo copied out from somewhere,because I feel sure he would not himself write such stuff,is nothing more than pie in the sky ..The simple truth is that the DR is so far behind in nearly every sector except for producing very good baseball and basket ball players and finalists in every beauty competition.

The DR doesn't have "only 3 cruise ports." Off the top of my head I could name the following as visited by cruiseships: Puerto Plata, Samaná, Cap Cana, La Romana, and Santo Domingo. Not only is not "only 3," but no other island in the Caribbean has so many ports of call.

Making the DR the center of operations for Ikea in much of Latin America was already part of the stages included in the DR business plan.

Surely you must be joking . Cap Cana does not have a cruise terminal...very occasionally the cruise ships anchor far out at sea and passengers come in on tenders and the same goes for Samana where there is only a tender jetty . That leaves the three as ports or terminals as I wrote . Ikea stores operate as franchises with different operators and the franchise owner in Chile ,Peru and Colombia will be Falabella from Chile. Can you imagine these three locations will transport their goods via Santo Domingo when they can bring them in direct.

Over 73,000 people arrived through the ports in Cap Cana and Samana in 2019.

You mean like transhipping goods through the port in Colon, Panama instead of Caucedo Port in the DR? Who would come up with a "losing" business like that? Oh wait...

The governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), Héctor Valdez Albizu, revealed yesterday that “the nominal product would be at US$109,045.4 million in 2022 and would continue to grow until exceeding RD$120 billion in 2024, which would place the Dominican Republic, as stated by the IMF, as the seventh largest economy in Latin America.

Speaking at the XV International Congress of Finance and Auditing (CIFA), he said that this level of output, together with a modern and efficient liability management strategy by the Ministry of Finance aimed at reducing debt service and improving its sustainability, has contributed to the consolidated public sector debt falling from 69.1% of GDP in 2020 to 62.6% of GDP in 2021, projecting a level below 59.0% of GDP by the close of this year.

Nominal output expresses the monetary value of a country’s production of final demand goods and services.

And this thread has been resuscitated again almost a year after the last post prior to Pichardo's. I'm coming to terms that this thread will go when DR1 goes.

Anyway, the DR hasn't imploded yet as has been predicted here on multiple times since 2008! Yeup, 2008!

And the DR’s economy is only getting more resilient and strong.
Record tourists…
Infrastructure upgrades.
Not imploded yet…

Time is a good thing.
It demonstrates if facts are based on a strong economic sense.

We’re still on two cylinders out of a potential 12…
DR is bound to be a logistics hub.
