With Easter Week coming up (11 to 20 April 2025), the local equivalent of spring break, media is alerting of the dangers that motorcyclists and motorcyclist racing represent for the general public. N Digital and El Dia have looked into the issue, raising all the red flags.

N Digital reports that Aníbal Germoso, of the entity Accidente RD, points out that clandestine motorcycle races are not only a high-risk activity, but the activity has grown to such an extent that there is now an Association of Motorcyclist Racers (Asociacion de Corredeores). While the group operates informally, he says it has codes, rules and agreements for the races.

N Digital also reports that in 2025, the Ground Transit Agency (Digesett) has seized 173 motorcycles used in the clandestine races nationwide.

N Digital mentions that the bets in the clandestine motorcycle competitions are of...

Almost everything bad that happens in this country happens at night.

I miss the Covid lockdown curfews.

Not completely correct...most Dominicans "drive" during the day.
And yes, those curfews were great, we should reinstate them even without a reason like Covid or another joke.

I can't speak for all areas of DR, but most ugly traffic accidents in Santo Domingo usually happen on Saturday and Sunday during the day, it's less traffic on weekends and people start driving faster than usual.

From Las Galeras to Samana on an average day, I see about 10 guys popping wheelies for at least 1000 feet. Sometimes with passengers. People pass other vehicles on blind turns. There is no regard for personal safely or human life among some people.

Hmmm, Sundays are the only day I will drive into the capital. You always see stupid but I don't think it's worse than normal.

Gotta keep your eyes on everyone else when driving. Early mornings on Sunday are the best.

What could be a fender bender during the week, on Saturday or Sunday would be a major accident because people drive faster on weekends. It's all about speed, and Mon-Fri you can't drive fast enough to crash that hard in Santo Domingo during the day.

They might drive faster but there are a lot less of them on the roads. Sunday is the only day you can go to the Capital and actually get someplace...........

That's right. My point was that IF an accident happens in SD on Saturday or Sunday, it's usually ugly, because of high speed. I live 20 years in SD, so I have seen many. And Mon-Fri there are usually a lot of fender benders and small scratches on bumpers.
