Remittances hit a record high

Dominicans abroad are showing their solidarity with families and friends in the Dominican Republic. The Central Bank reports that remittances reached a 10-year high with US$8.2 billion in 2020, a 16% increase over 2019. Dominican expats living in the United States sent 83.8% of the remittances.

December 2020 was a peak month for remittances. Dominicans sent home US$872.3 million compared to the US$656.7 million sent in the same month in 2019.
