Any advice on what a rental contract in the Dominican Republic should include? Are there lawyers that will help for a nominal fee?

There are lawyers that will do the contract for a fee. But, you do not need a lawyer if the contract is simple and you can read Spanish. The contract does not have to be complicated. Some owners will make it complicated - and they will have their lawyer write it. You have to be careful in this situation that they do not make it one sided their favor.

I paid $350 USD to a lawyer one time to do the contract because the owner of the place I wanted to rent was unreasonable. Another time I did not need the lawyer because the owner was reasonable and the contract was simple.

Short answer - Absolutely. Are you the lessee or lessor? Either way it's a contract for future services & future payment. I would use a lawyer.

If you are the renter and the landlord has a contract he uses - for the cost of reviewing/rewriting, you could save 10 times over that amount if things go bad.

Or just have the lawyer write one up, cost would be about $200 usd or less. Money well spent.
