So, just to be on the safe side, I applied online to start the International Licence and got back the list of requirements, one off which is to have at least one year to run on your national licence. That makes sense, as the IDL is for a year, but my DR licence does not last a year. I haven't got time to both renew the licence and get the international one, so I'll just have to hope for the best, since most people here say I shouldn't have a problem.
If you can't rent a car with your DR license I will give you the price of an IDL. But if you do, and you will I want a $4 package of Thomas English Muffins. Deal? ...............And I will pay you the $4....

Yes, it sounds like a deal. I have never heard of Thomas English Muffins, and I'm English. In fact I don't think I've ever had a muffin in my life. However, I will try to get you some in the US if you are right about the DR licence being good to go.

I have rented over 50 cars in the US in over 20 years with ONLY my DR license. Don't listen to one guy who does not even have a DR license, let alone rented a car with one. You will have no problems...............

So then, to be on the safe side, call and reserve a car from the company you intend to do business with...........and make direct inquiry of them regarding your foreign license......so as not to get an unfortunate surprise when you arrive.

I just rented my car here in the USA today. DR licence - no problem. A packet of English muffins for SKY - if I can find them!
