One last time. Here's the question:

"Can anyone recommend someone in Puerto Plata to repair my bathroom water heater?"

I asked the OP a question in post 3, but have no reply. The reason for the question was that a water heater is rather simple, so not sure why several plumbers would not have figured it out. We know of an electrician and used to know a good plumber, but without knowing what the heater is/is not doing, not sure what helps. Unless it's to fix a leak, I'm even sure what is the there to "troubleshoot" with a simple water heater for a plumber? Now, if the heater is a more complicated one, with several valves like back home, then it's a different thing, but I doubt it? In any case, no reply from the OP...

How long does the gas last before you have to refill ?

Our are on-demand heaters and the use very little gas. The tank seems to last forever, I don’t know the size but two are a little larger than a typical gas grill size, the other shares a connection with the big kitchen propane tank

Well you learn something new everyday....

I am of the opinion that if I can save time or steps to make life easier do it ( work smarter not harder mentality) so I'll stick with my electric water heater which I can turn off and on with a switch and costs probably less overall.....carry on

Which is why I am asking AE specifically because she has a propane system.....which in my opinon for this country is very impractical when electricity is cheap
but inconsistent, so a gas/propane inline heater is a viable option that is readily available

I have an inverter which takes care of both issues ( inconsistent power and my hot water heater )
This is now going severely off-topic, but you do realize that an inverter must first convert A/C to D/C and then reverse the same process, so for that part the "cheap energy" part is not so valid anymore. There is a formula to calculate the kwh amount a gas has (I know this as our house had a gas heating in EU and I had to know exactly what kind of bill to expect), which you could then compare with the kwh price of electricity, but there is a reason those are widely used. We had one installed by the landlord in a house we lived in. I want to say that if you do the comparison, warm water heated with gas is cheaper even in the DR, but again, I don't have the calculations at hand, just based on experience.

The EU is not the DR I'm sure electricity is far more expensive in Europe.....and until you figure out the calculations your comment that water heated with gas even here in the DR iis cheaper s your opinion not fact.....to which i disagree

oldschool is correctly named. Most electric hot water tanks here are poorly constructed and have a tendency to sludge up and rust out.

Agree 100%......but the salt air disen't help with the rust and the unfiltrated water doesn't help with the sludge.....island livin

True but they are also totally cheap. Once i used one that blow up while we were away for two days. For the Damage that the running water caused yo can buy a small car. NEVER EVER I WILL USE ONE AGAIN.
I generally trust no water fixtures here at all. We don't leave the house with any valves open. In case of having our own pump, the pump is shut off before leaving. We've never had any accident like that, sorry to hear about that.

Me too. ( though someone was in the house when it happened )....that's when you couldn't always leave them on there was a switch wirh a red light usually in your house that's was installed to turn it off and on.....nowadays they don't have that issue but 20 years ago seguro

Mine is a 10 gallon electric with a wind up timer. Set it on 15 minutes before I take a shower and it works perfectly.

The house has 60 lbs of pressure when I turn on the pump, which is also on a wind up timer.

For other water needs, the tinaco is fine.

Also here in POP...I prefer the brisk non-heated shower, no worries about the hot water heater at all :) I turned it off at the breaker so it can't be accidently turned on

No, this is not the EU, the only reason I mentioned it was the fact that there I had to do the math for gas kwh content due to forecasting billing.

So, if my math is correct, for the DOP price of 132.60 of GLP, and a few web sources, I came to the approx price 5.37 DOP per kwh, which means that only the kwhs charged with the EDEs lowest tier would be within this area, everything else with electricity is more expensive than gas.

But there only 12000 pesos and yes the quality of Dominican water heaters makes Chinese products look good.
I got one with the threads on the connection holes miss-threaded and I wasted a couple hours trying to get it to work before I took it back. Only then the ferretería told me "yeah that brand has that problem".
I said "So why do you still sell them ?
