Really we should all be happy then. Of course living all year round here for years and not having residency papers is not recomendable.
Keep in mind the staying extension is a prepaying of the exit fine.
Pre-paying does not have any effect on the length of time a foreign driver's license is valid.
Those are different rules from different government agencies.

Always fully comply with immigration laws of ANY country. They can arrest and deport you anytime!!!

Mexico used to be easy-loosey until the Caravans Invasions started. Interior Roadblocks, Long distance buses checks, etc.

Now they don't even give Tourists the full 180 days automatically -- you need to prove it with reservations and return ticket --
due to long time abuse of making Border Runs to avoid residency. Other countries cracking down on this too.

Even the USA now writes the date on my stamp on when I have to leave , 180 days.
