I recommend Restaurant Sully in Charles Summer, opposite PriceSmart. The portion sizes are huge and the prices are very very reasonable. Great fish and pasta. It's very old fashioned - they come round with a dessert trolley, and nothing to look at from the outside, but in terms of quality and value for money it's unbeatable. Two of us ate there including pre-dinner drinks, wine, starters mains and dessert for RD$ 3900. And there was so much food we had enough in the to-go bag for another whole meal.

Any steaks there or just seafood and pasta? Thanks!

Maybe this should be in the Living forum. Most of us travel in Santo Domingo from another part of the country, I think. But let me try it here.

Each time we go to SD we like to try a different fine restaurant. Maybe there is a previous thread here about this, but I haven't seen anything recently and since the pandemic, many places closed.

So, what is the one restaurant you would recommend for a really great meal? We are heading down next week to take someone to the airport. He is a meat eater, so a good steakhouse would be perfect, but we are open to any type of restaurant. Price is not an issue. Ambiance and good food are most important. And, of course, service.

What would you recommend and where is it located? Thanks for helping out!!!!!
I'd reccommend Leek in Piantini. Especially for brunch on Sundays.

The manager was definitely Dominican when I went there. I get the impression it's been there years and years. A lot of Dominican friends said Oh I remember that place from back in the day.

Am going to go to each restaurant you all recommended here. It might take my a year or so, but it is on my bucket list.

Last night we ate at Naca'n. I must start by saying WOW! The ambiance is great. The service, excellent. And the menu, both interesting and impressive.

Two of us started off with their 5 onion soup. Delicious. My husband had oysters on the half shell. He was apprehensive, but they were small and tasty, he said. For salads, two of us had their beet salad and liked it a lot. I had the lettuce wedge. It was TWO lettuce wedges, and although I could not begin to finish it, it was just what I expected and more.

For the main course, my husband had sea bass. He loved the sauce it was served with. I had a strip steak with truffle butter, and our friend had the cowboy rib eye steak with the bone in. Their steaks are imported from Allen Brothers in Chicago. The steaks were nicely seasoned. After being served, waitress stayed to see if they were cooked to our liking, which they were. My husband ate half my steak, because it was simply too big. Our friend ate every bite. We ordered two sides of greek grilled vegetables. They were delicious, although one order would have been enough, since the portions of each course were more than ample. (This is similar to steak houses in the US, such as Ruth Chris. They have huge, shareable portions.)

We could not leave without trying desserts and decided to share. We had chocolate souffle, Gran Marnier souffle, and their specialty, bread pudding. Our friend liked the bread pudding best. My husband and I liked the Gran Marnier souffle. (Both souffle's were served hot with a dollop of vanilla ice cream.)

We drank one bottle of white wine (2,000 peso bottle.) and our friend had 2 vodka and sprite drinks.

At the end of the meal, the chef came by to ask for feedback on the meal. We told him it was the best meal we have had in this country and that I have lived here 15 years and have been to several other fine restaurants in SD. He said he was trained at a culinary school here and by the owner who comes from North Carolina.

Hold on now. The bill came to 27,000 RD and some change. We have spent that much at restaurants before, but never in this country. It was a special experience for us. We did not complain. We will be back again after we hit the other restaurants on your list here in this thread, but maybe not too frequently with a tab like that. Naca'n will be saved for something special.

Thank you for the review. It sounds good, we will definitely be going there. Pricey but for special occasions and good food, well worth it. Being from Chicago I am very familiar with Allen Brothers. Great bucket list!
