Arrived Sunday. Bachata and Merengue open. Mambo closed for a few more days.

At Merengue they're taking health & safety much more seriously. They have maids at the toilets dishing out alcohol gel when you leave. Also when going into the main restaurant.

They've also improved on things like covers for sliced fruit.

It looks like a complete Healh & Safety overhaul.

None of the management left from last year and only a few of the entertainment crew. I know many of the bar staff and restaurant staff, though. Cant say if the change to staff was planned, because of the problems or because of the close down (taking jobs elsewhere).

No problems so far (apart form the edge of the bad weather in the South)

The description I've been given of the bug that closed RIU's at Bahia Maimon is vague - Norovirus, a.k.a. Norwalk-like, a.k.a. stomach flu, a.k.a. gastroenteritis.

Health checks ruled out food and water / sanitation.

Just got back and I know a few people went down with sickness / diarrhoea. But this is a very few out of all the guests at the 3 hotels. One person was even ill on the very first day.

There is nearly always someone with this kind of problem at hotels in hot climates whether it is DR, Mexico, Egypt ...
