Since my large dog was asleep on the job last night as we were robbed......My wife and I have decided we need a small, alert, yippy dog.......We really do not like chihuahuas....therefore,,,,does anyone know of any miniature schnauzers for sale???
thanks

Can you tell us more about the robbery? Were you home? Do you have bars on your windows? How did they get in? I think it is good we share this info so that others can be alert. My main concern living here is security.

Lights with motion detectors, really inexpensive, locate them in different areas and a basic alarm. Dogs are just part of your security system. But you dont want a dog that bites you or some you love.
I always work with G/S and Rotties, with a natural dislike of strangers, with basic trainning not to eat salamy from strangers.
I like closed garages so no one knows if I am home, houses here have open garages.
If you have someone at home all times and there is the dog team to respond to burglars, also have a washi that can be trusted once in a while guard the house from a hidden location, hidding on the grounds.

yep....We were home...it happened about 330am. I do not want to go into too much detail since, naturally, would like to try and track down who did it.They climbed over a 6-8 foot high wall. One of the problems I will have is what to do if I find out who did it.....

If your dog didn't respond, its a likely hood he knew the intruder and possibly ignored him.

Didn't I read somewhere that the DomRep police said to "rub them out"? I'd take that to mean you should eliminate the problem. OR do like the fisherman of the northeastern USA do--they string a dead bird on the boat to let other birds know what will happen to them....a ladrone or two strung up may be the key....

I sent a couple of these down to my gal pal in SD. She positioned them so that if anyone comes in, the motion sensor sets off lights and 120db alarm Strobe Motion Alarm with Remote

That website has some interesting and inexpensive ways of notifying you someone has breached your property.

I don't have a monitored alarm system at my home in the states, I use motion sensors, alarms and x10 cameras. I also keep Serv-Pro's phone number handy. They're a disaster clean-up company whose motto is "Like in never even happened".

EXACTLY what happened to us in the US. 100 pound Boxer in house. Me in Italy visiting son in college for Easter, Mr. AE in DR visiting family for Semana Santa, daughter working at casino stayed home with dog. House robbed and ransacked while she was working, dog locked in our bedroom - upstairs. They came in through basement window, which was conveniently unlocked. We found out about a year later it was someone who we knew, who had been in our home a zillion times and called me "mom". Dog knew him very well and let him right in. He was probably following them around like a puppy so they locked him in bedroom so he wouldn't annoy them.

After that we installed a good alarm system.

I keep telling my girlfriend that and she still refuses to let me get one.

Bronzie does bring up an interesting point about the weakness of solely relying on dogs for your security.
Bars
Alarm
Dogs
Guns/Training.

You can probably get by with two of the above. The Bars and Alarm would be a minimum for me.

This is funny:) not saying is not true but funny. You ever played that game when you name a list, and the person has to guess what it is? I will show you.

Person A :Bars, Alarms, Dogs, Guns and Training.

Person B : Things you find in a "PRISON"

Person A : NO

Person B: Things you find in a "police station"

Person A: Wrong!!!

Person B: Things you find in a "military base"

Person A : Not even close.

Person B: I give up what is the answer?

Person A: Things you find in and around a house in the Dominican Republic.

Person B: WTH!!!!

Where are you? There is a guy standing along side the highway in Sosua who holds small dogs out toward the passing cars quite often. Don't know if they are chihuas or not, but they seem to be small yappy types.

Me I run wire along the top of my fence and tap into the 220 from the pole. Doesnt cost much since I get the electric for free. Just kidding I wouldnt do this based on the reliability of the electric grid.

Get a gun, 2 cans of pepper spray, an outside motion detector, inside motion detector, door and window alarms, make friends with the neighbors, and get a couple daggers or machetes.

If you really want dogs to settle the situation. You can get 4 pit bulls or 4 types of viscious dogs. Dogs in a pack is where they are naturally good. They work together in case of emergency like a pack of wolves would. Keep them in the house at night so noone feeds or puts them to sleep. DO not get all of them as puppies because it will take them months to be able to help you out with security.

You, yourself, you can take martial arts classes in karate or aikido or stick fighting or choose another art. I have heard many stories of martial artists who killed burglars in their homes.

If your Boxer was like most I have met, he probably held the flashlight, opened the door and sat down and had a sandwich with the intruders all the while jumping straight up and down saying "I wanna play, you wanna play with me"

Boxers are one of the greatest breeds I have experienced, but as a watch dog I might think of another breed that are more interested in protection than affection

You do realize so called "pit bulls" were bred to be aggressive to other dogs but passive to human beings? they truly make lousy guard dogs except for the fear factor

What "Oriental" word do you scream while attaining the correct fighting stance and the burglar squeezes off three or four rounds? I have never heard of anyone with any experience advocate any type of martial art, boxing or wrestling for home defense. maybe as a means of self protection in the street, but in the home there are far more effective and deadly options

Me, I simply have a "Sea chicken" set up with motion detectors and a360o FoF ;)

geez. you are so secretive one could think you suspect a bunch of dr1ers. we are asking not to set up another heist like this but rather in order to protect ourselves in the future...

better give up any hopes of finding out who did that. it is better not to know. one thing is no rob you and another to be loudly and publicly accused. that calls for slashing your throat to shut you up... let things be. accept this as a lesson and move on.
