I have had two root canals with new crowns for each tooth in this past year. Both done by our family's local dentist in Santo Domingo. Each one cost 200$US. Back in new england the estimates were in the thousands $US for the same work.

I went to Cibao Dental Spa today and they quoted me $320.usd for a root canal. I would recommend them to anyone, first class all the way. I was quoted for a ton of work for myself and my girlfriend if anyone is curious about the prices of other work. They spent two hours examining me and three doctors consulted with me including a periodontist, dentist and oral surgeon for $50.usd money very well spent.

Cibao is a bit more costly than others but their equipment, service and expertise are excellent

Worth it in many cases.

I know personally two friends who have done root canal here in various towns and two or three different dentists and for a few teeth. It turned out not so good, one of them went back to Europe and had to redo some of them as it was really badly done...

It is not just the work but the material they use, they are some quality Swiss made, expensive stuff and then cheap Chinese or even Pakistani pins that they can drill into your jaw bones ... !!!?

Cheap here but be careful and be aware.... !

I agree there are some that will not do a good job or use good materials however I can say that although yes as William said you might pay more in Santiago, Cibao there are some excellent places. The job I had done (I had one root canal years ago in the states) was excellent.

Cibao Dental Spa uses nothing but the best and showed me samples of what they use and why and also showed me examples of the cheap junk. For instance,I need crowns and inquired about both zirconia and ceramic crowns, they only use zirconia they will not use ceramic.

Thank you all for your responses :) :)

I sadly did not have the chance to shop around, but that is a good piece of advice.
I went with my local dentist's recommendation in the end, it was a rush job on my part as i was in such pain :( :(.
But would definitely shop around if---God forbid--- there is a next time......... and probably end up at dental cibao as some of you proposed......and so did my wife.

I have had----Praise the stars---very few contacts with dentists in the course of my whole life.
Annual check ups at family dentist, wisdom teeth removed in a private clinic, and a broken tooth replaced by family dentist....... nothing else, so i don't really have anything to compare with.

In the dr i go to a dentist in a neaby " town" just for a yearly clean up. Just OK-ish practice, but she is nice.
1 year + ago a chicken bone broke one of my molars :(
So i went to see her and she cleaned everything up and put in a filling but warned me it was not sure that would be enough to get the job done.
From that point onwards and for the first time ever, that tooth was subject to discomfort when eating cold stuff ( like ice cream ). Not pain, but discomfort.

Well, last thursday, i had a searing pain in that tooth....... so i did what one does in that case, and doused it in home-made pear moonshine ;).
Saturday i was still in pain and started worrying...... pain so bad i couldn't sleep.
Tuesday, i finally got round to going to my local dentist...... yeah yeah i know, but week-end, dia de la constitution moved around, lazy, etc........
Nothing she could do :( ...so referred me to a colleague of hers in Mao.

Such pain, that after a quick recon Wednesday and against my wife's advice ( she suggested dental cibao in santiago ), well i went with it.
Nicely surprised i have to say. Clean, modern offices.
Very nice doctora ...... pregnant up to her ears though..... giving birth tomorrow lol.....

Advertised price was 14k pesos.
I paid 10k cash + 600 pesos for a panoramic x-ray...... cash w/o insurance.
Another 800 pesos at pharmacy for a weeks worth of antibiotics and pain killers ( that i won't take, but are there if i need them ).

I would recommend IF you speak spanish. Dentalfa is the name of the place.

I recommend taking that antibiotics for sure, I lost count the number of times people had gone for simplest of encounters with doctors/dentists here and ended up with an infection - please take that antibiotics right to the end of it's recommended course....

What can i expect to pay for a root canal ?

There is a new dentist just down the street from you. As you go to Navas it is about 100 yards on the left past the pharmacy above the big colmado. She did some good cosmetic work for us a couple of weeks ago . Has xray machine and a modern office.
I liked her.

Dr. Manuel Paulino Calle del Sol Edif Plaza Criastal Santiago 809 382 4139.

I will put this Dentist over any Dentist in ANY country you can find for root canals. I had a root canal problem that a very good Dentist in Miami said could not be fixed by root canal. I went to Dr. Paulino because he did well for me many years ago. He X Rayed the tooth and told me the same thing. But he also said he can fix it. Now they wanted to pull the tooth in Miami and put an Implant in. Not cheap either in Miami. 3 and a half hours and 20,000 rd later and the tooth was as good as new. The Dentist in Miami did not believe it.

If you want to save money don't go there, but if you want to save a tooth that cannot be saved run there.
