In the face of European Union sanctions and the logistical challenges of Asian imports, Russia has begun importing beer from the Dominican Republic. The move comes as a response to the increased cost of European beers due to sanctions related to the Ukraine conflict.

According to Russian daily Kommersant, the importing company Mirovoi Trader has secured a license to bring in ‘Presidente’ brand beer from the Cervecería Nacional Dominicana.

Kommersant explains that the tenfold increase in duties on beer from “unfriendly” countries is pushing Russian importers to diversify their supply channels. The Russia media says that distributors are planning to start importing products from the Dominican Republic that cost less.

Kommersant reported the alcohol importer, Mirovaya Trader has already received a declaration of conformity for beer under the Presidente and Presidente Light...

Well they must really be desperate.
Mexico has dozens of better beers and can produce enough (and cheaper) for all of Russia

At least they’re getting “real”Presidente. The ones in USA are made there, different everything, including taste.
I always thought that Anheuser-Busch had something to do with the Presidente sold in the US? Maybe I am wrong.

A quick search, as KC sparked my curiosity: "Presidente is a brand of Pilsner beer owned and produced by Cervecería Nacional Dominicana (CND), which is now majority-owned by AmBev, the Brazilian unit of Anheuser-Busch InBev, after AmBev acquired a controlling stake in CND for over $1.2 billion in 2012" and: "Presidente beer is distributed in the United States by Reyes Beverage Group, a family-owned, total beverage distributor that is the largest beer distributor in the U.S."

Moosehead beer has a 1461 bottle case for sale that might work for the Russians. Problem being, it has sold out almost immediately and the idea was to only drink one beer a day. Personally I would never trust a beer that turns the bottle green.

If it were up to me as a Dominican citizen, I would not sell to Putin.
The sanctions aren’t working Windy. Russian malls, grocery stores, and car dealerships are filled with products from other countries, China being the main one. The Presidente story may be true.

You didn’t mention it was marketed to help Canadians get through the four years of the Trump administration. 🤣 I can get Brugal rum here and Santo Domingo coffee is back on our grocery store shelves in Atlantic Canada. No Presidente. I prefer Bohemia anyway. It’s taste is closer to the taste of our beers. The few times I ended up drinking with Russians, vodka was their drink of choice. I’ve seen the young Russians drinking beer at the DR resorts but the older ones still prefer their vodka.

Sad but true. I would put a 3 billion dollar bounty on the heads of Putin and his minions. Might help solve the problem better than sanctions or an endless war.

I have friends both Serbian and Russian living in Moscow and throughout the Golden Ring. I can assure you all of their lives are moving along just fine and there is no shortage of quality goods or services for them to enjoy.

Careful what you wish for in life.
He is the lesser of two evils in many ways.

These sanctions the West was so quick to impose only work if the rest of the world abides by them to which they do not, nor will they ever.

Reminds me when the news was that McDonald’s was leaving Russia in protest of the war.

What did Russia do?

Would be funny if “Russian McDonald’s” expands to the DR and open one next to every McDonald’s. lol
